Yes, you heard that right. The British boxer is now officially a promoter. The European Batanweight champion, Thomas Essomba, is set to defend his title against Elie Konki. The champion boasts a record of 12 wins with 8 losses. Meanwhile, the challenger, on his own, has an impressive record. His record stands at 14 wins with only one defeat. Who will this fight? Only time can, but we know that Edwards is the one co-promoting the event.

On X, the announcement was made official by @IntBoxingNews. It stated, “SUNNY EDWARDS TO PROMOTE EBU TITLE FIGHT! @letsgomanage and @SunnyEdwards have WON the purse bid for @TheRealEssomba’s European Bantamweight title DEFENCE against Elie Konki!” Meanwhile, the champion confirmed it from his end by simply stating, Mr. Boxing.”

Although it is ubiquitous to see fighters become promoters during their career span, one can expect the unexpected from Edwards. From his response, it is safe to say that he is proud of this recent revelation. However, this has not been the only instance the boxer has put on a different hat in the sport.

Throwback to Edwards being a commentator

Back in the Summer of this year, Joe Cordina had his long-awaited match with Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov. And do you know who was in the commentating booth? None other than Edwards himself. During the event, Barry Jones even made a sly dig at his height and stated, “I mean height shammed by someone who is 5 foot 3.” In response, the champion stated, “Lil cheeky if you ask me not when the camera is on.”
