One of the biggest rivals of Canelo Alvarez is Gennady Golovkin. The two met one another inside the squared circle on three occasions. The first bout took place in September of 2017. At the time, ‘Saul,’ had only one defeat in his professional career but he was handed a draw by Golovkin in the first fight. As the result was left to the judges, many felt Alvarez was bested that day. Therefore, fate had it for them to meet again.

They met again in May of 2018 and Alvarez secured the victory via a majority decision. Their trilogy came at a rather unusual time. The two met each other for the final time last year when Golovkin was 40. Alvarez was the betting favorite and he proved why by securing a unanimous decision. All the fights combined, their pursues add up to a whopping $230 Million. However, in a recent turn of events, the former trainer of Golovkin predicted Jermell Charlo‘s fate against Alvarez. In an interview with Fight Hub.TV, The former trainer of Gennady Golovkin, Abel Sanchez was asked to give his prediction for Charlo vs Alvarez. In response, he claimed that Charlo may put up a fight in the early rounds but would eventually face defeat. Moreover, he thinks the bout would go to a decision that would result in the favor of Alvarez.

Reflecting upon the same, he stated, “I think he beats Charlo and eventually just.. I am not going to say Charlo quits. But maybe, quits in his mind. He’ll give Canelo hard time early but I think Canelo finally catches up with him and maybe I think he wins a maybe 16-12 decision”

Many people consider the weight disparity between the two to favor the chances of Alvarez. However, it bears mention that there is a section of the boxing world that thinks Alvarez might be on a decline and can sense a possibility of an upset.

Amir Khan fought Alvarez back in 2016. Although he was defeated by him, it bears mention that Khan has first-hand experience of facing Alvarez. According to him, he thinks Alvarez is not what he once was inside the ring and Charlo may capitalize on it and potentially win.

In an interview, he stated, “Canelo is too strong, but then again, looking at Canelo’s last few fights, you can see that he is aging a little bit. He is been getting caught a lot more he got beat by Bivol.”
