Ryan Garcia seems to have made up his mind for the next fight. More so, given how Devin Haney has responded to the callout, a fight between the two appears in the offing. But not all are happy with the move.

Rolando Romero, who hasn’t fought since winning a world title in May, received a callout from Ryan Garcia. The young Californian, on a return trip after that devastating knockout loss to Gervonta Davis in April, wants to make up for the next big bout in the upcoming year. After scoring a resounding victory over Oscar Duarte, a visibly upbeat Garcia rolled out a list of fighters he would love to go against. Among them was Rolando Romero. But now, as things have turned out, it’s almost certain that the next match will be against Devin Haney. Understandably unhappy, ‘Rolly’ launched a series of tweets, chiding Garcia for avoiding him.

Rolando Romero rips into Ryan Garcia

So Rolando Romero mentioned how he had been having a gala time for the last seven months. All the while, Ryan Garcia had been keeping away from him. In a strict sense, to beat the wits out of the Californian, he doesn’t even need to go through the rigors of a training camp!

Subsequently, upon coming across ‘KingRy’s tweet, Romero launched another attack. Ryan Garcia, while apologizing, lamented how Romero and his team were playing the wait-and-watch game. In the end, their wishy-washy stance pushed him towards a square-up with Devin Haney. Garcia expressed how he just couldn’t determine whether ‘Rollie’ was keen on a fight. The die was cast, and he and ‘The Dream’ were pushing forward with their fight. So there won’t be any further discussions from his end.

A visibly incensed Rolando Romero said, “Nah, mf you just allergic to punchers? Your c**chie still hurt ?”

But much before he lambasted Ryan Garcia, Rolando Romero, sounding conciliatory, mentioned that he spent quite some time out of the ring. He returned nearly a year after the loss to Gervonta Davis to face Ismael Barroso on May 13. After his title wins, he has yet to face an opponent.

Then, tagging Ryan Garcia, he said that it was high time they made the most significant PPV bout of the upcoming year. They should be able to give their fans what they have been yearning for for so many years now. “I’ve spent enough time away from boxing. It’s time to make the biggest PPV event of 2024, @RyanGarcia. Let’s give the fans what they want; they’ve been begging for this for years, #RomeroGarcia.

At the opposite corner, even Devin Haney has confirmed that discussions are taking place between him and Team Garcia to finalize a fight. There’s no denying that a fight between Ryan Garcia and Rolando Romero would have been an equally good proposition. But now, under the current circumstances, ‘Rollie’ will have to go back to the mandatory challenge. Currently, Ohara Davies, ranking first in the WBA rankings, might get a chance to stake a claim at the world title.
