In light of the ongoing dispute between Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya recently called ‘KingRy’ a child ahead of the Oscar Duarte fight. On the other hand, furious over De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins‘ statements, Garcia forbade the two from entering his locker room before facing Duarte in the ring.

But, now that the fight is over, De La Hoya is happy that Garcia won. Likewise, speaking to the Fight Hub TV, the 50-year-old praised Ryan’s victory. In addition, he claimed to understand what ‘KingRy’ was mentally going through before the fight.

At the end of the day, Oscar De La Hoya is proud of Ryan Garcia

After the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions was asked to “stay out of the other locker room [Ryan’s]“, he visited Oscar Duarte and encouraged the same to fight well. In fact, De La Hoya publicly declared that he was delighted to see Duarte calm and focused. At this, while many expected ‘Golden Boy’ to remain upset over Garcia’s actions, De La Hoya later told the media that he understood Garcia’s emotions and wished him only the best.

Speaking of his performance against Duarte, Oscar said, “I’m proud of him. I’m proud of every fighter. Being inside the ring, fighting, you feel so much emotion. Outside the ring, a big fight.” In this context, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions slightly touched upon the ongoing dispute between Garcia and himself.

Recently, ‘KingRy’ accused De La Hoya of supporting his opponent. According to De La Hoya, it was due to the pressure ‘KingRy’ suffered ahead of the Duarte fight following the loss to Gervonta Davis in April that Garcia made such statements. “Especially, after you lose. You come back and you think everybody’s your enemy. But then, after you win, everything’s great. Bro, I’ve been there,” the 50-year-old concluded. In this connection, De La Hoya was asked about Garcia’s next opponent.

What is next for Ryan Garcia?

On being asked if he had an opponent ready in his mind for Garcia following the latest win, De La Hoya answered in the negative. “I haven’t even thought about it. We’ll have to go back to the drawing board. We’ll figure out the plan as his promoter for many years to come,” he said with hope. While De La Hoya could not name an opponent, Garcia called out Rolly Romero following the Duarte win.
