Claressa Shields has always been clear about her friends and foes across the boxing realm. In the past, she has spoken about her fellow Olympic contender Alycia Baumgardner with due reverence. For that reason, she has even refused to accept the fight against her at 147. Now, she has been called out for a fight by Baumgardner.

This couldn’t be ignored by Claressa Shields and she instantly went on to X and reached out to the boxer. That’s where both Shields and Baumgardner got involved in a discussion which brought forth a prospect.

So, amongst a series of posts on X, Claressa Shields started the conversation while talking about how a true pound-for-pound is someone who can win at any weight class. She stated that she’d fight Baumgardner at any weight class of her choice, be it 147, 154, 160, or even 168.

Then in a follow-up post, Shields stated that she’s always tried to say how she’d never fight Baumgardner. She also stated that she felt the same for Mikaela Mayer, and she’s baffled now as to why Baumgardner has called her out.

After this post, Baumgardner replied to Shields, where she reminded Shields about their time in the gym together. She stated, “I said ‘we should fight at 147’ and you laughed ! And I said I’m serious.” So, from that time, she was hellbent on squaring up against Shields.

In response, Claressa Shields posted another tweet, where she was surprised and asked, “Well hey you think you can dethrone the GWOAT…” Then she added that Baumgardner should start working on her fight plan, as she wants to take her up on the offer.

So, there’s a good possibility that the fans may get to see both of these fighters inside the ring soon. It’d definitely turn out to be an enthralling contest since they hold a mutual admiration for each other. During the drug test controversy of Alycia Baumgardner, Shields sent a supportive message to her.

Alycia Baumgardner’s headlines at the time of undisputed title defense against Christina Linardatou have not been in the most favorable light. Following the bout, the Ohioan tested positive for banned substances. This created a cloud of controversy around her achievements. To refute the allegations and clear her name, Baumgardner took the proactive step of undergoing a battery of independent tests.
