Keyshawn Davis made a statement defense of his titles last week. The sixth-round win over Jose Pedraza fetched him one more belt—the IBF USBA lightweight. The Olympic silver medalist feels that he is set to move up his game a bit. A fight with Floyd Schofield fits the bill.

So taking things to the next level, ‘The Businessman’ even seems to have got Schofield’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, on the table. On his part, while sounding skeptical about whether Davis will stay put till the deal comes through, ‘Kid Austin’ feels it may as well be a fight that may change the course for the Norfolk-born boxer.

Keyshawn Davis, Fight at Your Peril: Floyd Schofield

But firstly, Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield is not even sure whether Keyshawn Davis is serious about a fight. Then he also fears whether the latter will sit on the fence as time passes. Then, in a time-honored fashion, hide behind price issues and eventually walk away from the fight. Whatever is said and done, Austin said that a fight with Davis is a tad personal for him.

He said, “@businesskeyshawn is bluffing; you can hear his scary voice crack. Don’t price yourself out at the end of the years. I don’t care what they pay me… This is personal.”

Then, thanking Oscar De La Hoya, he concluded that a meet-up between the two would be detrimental to ‘The Businessman’s career. In all probability, (post-beatdown) he might even consider moving out of the sport as well. “You will retire after this fight due to medical conditions. Thank you, @oscardelahoya,” Austin said.

Reportedly, a match between the two has a good chance of making it through this year. Last week, Keyshawn Davis met De La Hoya and broached the question.

When ‘The Businessman’ Struck a Golden Deal

When ‘The Golden Boy’ acknowledged the back and forth taking place between Davis and Austin, the former asked, “Can we make it happen?” Then ‘The Businessman’ checked for an approximate timeline for when the fight could take place.

Oscar De La Hoya responded that it could happen by the end of this year. Davis, on his part, mentioned he is willing to fight whenever it happens. Then, taking to the camera, he said, “Hey, y’all see it, Kid Austin, it at the end of this year got my boy Oscar right here saying me and Kid Austin at the end of this year…let’s make it happen, man.” Per what the duo discussed, the venue could be Las Vegas.

More so, in the immediate past, both boxers sounded keen about a fight. Right in early December, Keyshawn Davis tweeted, “A fight with Kid Austin needs to happen in 2024. I think it will be legendary.

Like Davis, ‘Kid Austin’ remains unbeaten. Both have displayed a penchant for early stoppages. Hence, even style-wise, a contest sounds feasible.
