In his recent interview with iFL TV, promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed multiple and ongoing negotiations regarding Anthony Joshua’s next fight. Why Anthony Joshua can’t fight Deontay Wilder next in boxing
According to Jones Jr., it is not a good plan to square off against Deontay Wilder after two back-to-back losses against Oleksandr Usyk. In his last two fights, Joshua faced Usyk, and the latter defeated the former each time they met inside the boxing ring. While Joshua struggles to get a win since that one fight against Kubrat Pulev in 2020, Wilder stands strong following his October and outstanding 1st-round knockout win.
“He can’t go into a Deontay Wilder fight after losing two fights to Usyk. That doesn’t make any sense at all. Now if you find someone who isn’t quite the puncher that Wilder is, get yourself back and back to winning,” said Jones concerning Joshua vs. Usyk.

According to Jones, ‘AJ’ needs to first start winning. Once he has gotten back the confidence that was hammered by Usyk, Jones feels Joshua would be ready to face Wilder in the ring. Prior to fighting Wilder in boxing, Jones believes that Joshua needs to make certain adjustments and see how those adjustments help him.
“But if you’re coming off two losses against Usyk with the confidence being down already if Wilder hits you, you don’t know. That’s going to be crazy,” added Jones by saying.

Roy Jones Jr. praises Deontay Wilder in the light of a potential Joshua vs. Wilder in the ring
According to Jones, Wilder is a phenomenal heavyweight in present-day boxing. In his last fight, Wilder faced Helenius weighing almost 40 lbs less than his opponent and yet he dropped him. Therefore, Jones believes that one has to be “mistake-proof” before they square off against Wilder in the ring.

“Wilder is a phenomenal heavyweight; Wilder is one the hardest punching heavyweights in fighting right now. Against Wilder, you’ve got to be mistake-proof, you make a mistake with Wilder, and it could be over,” Jones concluded by saying.
