‘The Takeover’ Teofimo Lopez proved his worth when he beat the undefeated Josh Taylor. Lopez scored a unanimous decision win to secure the WBO Super Lightweight belt. The former lightweight champion did not look his best when he went up to 140 pounds, but his win over Taylor made a statement over all the people who doubted him. Out of these people, one was Eddie Hearn.

Hearn has stated in the past how Lopez has ‘unrealistic expectations of his commercial value. Previously, Lopez had also taken a shot at Hearn talking of how DAZN would not last more than five years. The two have never seemed to like each other. Recently, in an interview, Lopez fired back at Eddie Hearn. Does he actually prove Hearn wrong? Let us find out.

Teofimo Lopez on his fight with Josh Taylor breaking records

In the interview with BoxingSocial, Lopez called Hearn a liar, saying, “Eddie Hearn listen, to everybody out there in the boxing world and to all the casual fans listening to this right now, Eddie Hearn is a fluke and a liar and lying to you guys.” Lopez, a Top Rank fighter, mentioned how this is competition and the situation would have been different if he was fighting under Matchroom instead. He talked of how Hearn has said that he cannot sell out arenas and stuff.

Lopez proceeded to prove Hearn wrong by saying, “You know, not only did we sell out, me and Josh Taylor for the theatre in Madison Square Garden, You know what else we did that was great? We hit the highest gross in boxing history presenting in the theatre at the Madison Square Garden.” ‘The Takeover’ then talked of every legend that his fight had outbid. It included names like Lomachenko, Rigondeaux, Sergio Martinez, and Miguel Cotto.

Lopez took yet another dig at Hearn, saying, “I know you’re mad and that’s why you got Edgar Berlanga trying to get that back,” talking of how Hearn is trying to get the record secured through his fighter instead. With Lopez getting back in form, his next fight is already set to occur. Will he be able to secure the win in this one as well?

Lopez also mentioned how it will be a tough fight. According to the champion, he needs to stay alert against Ortiz. He said, “It’s not a walkover. This guy is very elusive, he’s a technician like they say. So he gave Loma a run for his money, so I got to stay on my toes.” Lopez looked incredibly good against Taylor. Whether he can keep up the same form against Ortiz after more than six months of inactivity remains to be seen.
