Floyd Mayweather Jr. knows how to stay in touch with his million-plus fans and followers. The wealthiest boxer in history would commence this year’s exhibition campaign against reality show celebrity Aaron Chalmers on February 25 at London’s O2 Arena. Interestingly a day before the bout, he would turn forty-six. But despite advancing age and retirement from professional boxing, the former five-division champion is as busy as he could be from the exhibition contests he participates in worldwide. His perfect professional record stands at 50-0.

Starting in December 2018, he’s taken part in five exhibition bouts. So much so that last year he fought thrice, with the last one against YouTuber Deji Olatunji. But a hectic schedule barely prevented him from enjoying the best in life.

Outside the ring, he is synonymous with a luxurious lifestyle. He never shies away from splurging his money and then letting the fans know. A few days ago, he shared the details of his recent purchase with all his followers on Instagram.

Likewise, today he shared a picture displaying a betting ticket. It seems he placed a wager on the Philadelphia Eagles to win Super Bowl 57 against Kansas City Chiefs. But fate had other plans. The Chiefs won 38-35, their third Super Bowl championship. So Mayweather Jr. mentioned, “I also bet something light at the casino. I won the first half with plus money but obviously lost the whole game. SWIPE OVER.

But the attempt didn’t go that well with some of the fans. Soon many, including what appears to be another champion, joined in voicing their thoughts.

Boxing fans, followers, and former champion react

A user, greg_tmt, referring to the much-panned call to chastise Eagles’ James Bradbury, said that had it been overturned, the champion would have won the bet.

The following user, j_psaldana, wondered why Mayweather Jr. should be ruing over the loss of $10k. After all, such an amount would be peanuts for a rich person like him.

User david_webster_  probably taking potshots at the former champion, asked whether ‘The Money’s’ situation has gone for a toss that he’s left betting with smaller sums of money.

The following user, matt_logos718, followed a similar cue and mentioned probably Mayweather Jr. going through tough times, which forced him to bet on amounts as low as $10k. Then adding to the pun, he said he would embark on another lucrative fight to make up.

It seems former four-division champion Adrien Broner couldn’t help but chime in with the rest. From purportedly his Instagram handle, adrienbroner, he mentioned how he still owed Mayweather Jr. between 10-11k from a long-lost bet. So with much confidence, he continued that after winning his upcoming fight against Michael Williams Jr., on February 25, he would turn up to hand over that amount. Victories and defeats form an inalienable part of our lives after all, he said.

melody26outlaw a bit succinctly told ‘The Money’ that the world acknowledges his fame as a successful and wealthy sports celebrity. Hence it would be unbecoming of him to talk about how much he lost on a ticket.

The moniker ‘The Money’ stands apt for Floyd Mayweather Jr. His professional career began in 1996 and lasted till 2017. ‘TBE’ won some of the biggest fights of the day. Moneywise, a few contests brought some of the biggest paychecks in boxing’s history. No surprise that Forbes ranked him the highest-earning athlete of the year 2018.
