Boxing Day is observed on December 26, the day following Christmas. It is commonly celebrated in the United Kingdom. And furthermore, the nation observes it as a banking holiday. Boxing Day, however, has nothing to do with the sport of boxing.

The history and significance of this day are frequently mentioned in the Bible. However, it is more frequently noted that it was invented in the 1800s, during the reign of Queen Victoria.
December 26th has nothing to do with boxing. It is more about boxes.
In the olden times, rich folks used to give gifts to their servants on the next day of Christmas. Boxing Day got its name because the gifts were traditionally distributed in boxes, and the servants also received a day off to spend time with their families. People congregate in shopping centers on these days since it is seen as a day to buy gifts.

Sporting events also have importance on this day. For several centuries, people have celebrated sporting events held on December 26th. The UK, Australia, South Africa, and some countries follow it as a special day for sporting event fixtures.

Moreover, the Premiere League(soccer) has an entire day dedicated to sporting games. Back in 1860, soccer clubs Sheffield FC and Hallam FC played a soccer match, which contributes to the significance of boxing day in sports. Meanwhile, in other countries like New Zealand and South Africa, test cricket matches are played on this occasion. Another intriguing fact is that Boxing Day is recognized as a day for test cricket matches in the Australian calendar.
