According to Hughley, Jordan had an unparalleled commercial success and was certainly one of the greatest NBA players of all time. However, those who didn’t even speak English knew Ali. And this recognition Ali achieved without a shoe line, unlike Michael Jordan and his branding.

Hughley said, “There was one point [when] Muhammad Ali was the most recognized athlete or human being on the face of the earth. He didn’t have a shoe. Jordan commercially and athletically – you can’t what he was able to do. I’m telling you, for me, we use math to say things and then we use our hearts to do other things.”

“If you’re asking me [who] the greatest NBA player ever statistically [is], you can’t say it wasn’t him right?” However, here is what made Muhammad Ali different, according to Hughley.

Muhammad Ali ascended to a level unlike Michael Jordan or his contemporaries
If we hold money with the strictest concern, then in terms of marketability, Jordan reached a level that none else reached. However, Ali, instead of a market, dominated people’s hearts. “I think that Muhammad Ali was more beloved than almost any athlete. There were people who didn’t speak English knew [him]. Muhammad Ali was known around the world,” added Hughley.

According to Hughley and the journalist, Ali stood for ideals and love. Because of his ideals, Ali went to prison and almost jeopardized his career in boxing. Having said that, Hughley asked, “Do you know how many people were named Muhammad cause of him [and] not because of the God, the deity?”
Although he has a net worth of $2.2 billion, Jordan never came close to Ali. “Jordan had more commercial success but clearly Muhammad Ali ascended to a level,” concluded Hughley.
