It is completely safe to say that the RoKit Williams team are clearly struggling. Even the drivers themselves are aware of the dire situation that they are stuck in. Williams F1 rookie, George Russell has even come out and said that he and teammate Robert Kubica are treating each race as an extended test session.

“Personally, I can take a bit of satisfaction from this weekend. I think [Saturday] was a really great day for me. I left the circuit with my head held high. [In the race] we knew what we were in for,” the British driver admitted.

“It wasn’t a fair fight with Robert [Kubica] as he had a bit of damage at the start. For both of us, it was just bring the car home and learn as much as we can.”

“We’ve just got to treat these as test sessions because we’re so far behind, and we’ve just got to understand it and almost try things to see what works and see what doesn’t, because for now it doesn’t really make much sense to try and optimise everything when we are that far off the pace.”

Now, things are about to get worse for the Grove-based team, much worse. According to a source on Instagram, Russell has confirmed that the new Williams FW42 will not have important improvements to solve the problems until summer and will remain at the back of the grid for next races!:

He revealed, “We have a fundamental problem with this car, we think we know what it is but that does not mean we can get up and fix it on Monday. To change something fundamentally, you need months, I’m afraid it will take some races (possibly in summer), I’m sure if we solve this problem, we’ll take a big step forward. Maybe we will not get out of the end of the table immediately, but at least we can fight, now we are so far behind that there is no hope in anything”
