The only silver lining to the Philadelphia Phillies’ lackluster home loss to divisional rivals the Washington Nationals on Monday was LF Brandon Marsh‘s homer. But his 10th home run of the season didn’t come without a pep talk. Despite being the team’s most reliable hitter this season, his recent performance was less productive than usual. He struggled as he hadn’t gotten a hit against left-handed pitchers in his last 14 at-bats. Bryce Harper noticed this and walked up to him during the break between innings to give him a pep talk, which helped Marsh find his confidence. Despite the 4-1 loss, he later applauded Harper’s leadership.

“That’s just him being the leader he is,” Marsh said after the Phillies’ only score came through his homer. “He could see that I may have been overthinking a little bit up there, so he just came and put his arms on me, and put his hands on me, and just told me, ‘Stop thinking so much and go be you.’”

The Phillies were trailing 2-0 at the end of the 6th when Harper displayed his leadership. Marsh entered the batter’s box 0-for-2 in the following inning and hit a 376-foot homer off the Washington starter. Although that was the only run from the Philadelphia lineup, it carried more weight than just an attempt to shorten the lead.

“Moments like that are special, and stuff that I won’t forget,” Marsh kept raving about the unofficial clubhouse leader. “So he’s just talking to me from experience.”

The 15-year MLB veteran has established himself as a cornerstone for the franchise for over seven years. And he’s not just a performer but also a clubhouse leader.

He has often absorbed criticism from fans and reporters when the young players have had rough outings. Similarly, he challenged them by declaring that they were “no longer the daycare.” His mentorship has been one of the biggest parts of his career.

Philadelphia Phillies left fielder Kyle Schwarber (right) celebrates with Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Bryce Harper (left) after hitting a two-run homer in the sixth inning as the Phillies play the Boston Red Sox at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pa. on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Phillies win 6-1.

He even played an instrumental role in re-signing J. T. Realmuto from free agency this offseason—Realmuto signed a three-year, $45 million deal in January. According to Sportsnet, Harper has also aggressively lobbied the front office for several other key players, including slugger Kyle Schwarber (who signed a four-year, $79 million deal in 2022), veteran outfielder Nick Castellanos (who signed a five-year, $100 million deal before the 2022 season), and shortstop Trea Turner (who signed an 11-year, $300 million deal before the 2023 season). All of them, except Castellanos, currently wear a Phillies shirt.

Harper also gave up his outfield position to help the roster and transitioned to first base, learning from scratch. Marsh’s story offers just another example of his unmatched leadership and devotion to the franchise. But that was not enough this Monday.

Leadership couldn’t prevent a defeat

Despite Marsh’s only home run, the Phillies’ offense never found its rhythm. They struck out 12 times during the 4-1 defeat. And there were multiple missed opportunities.

Rafael Marchán got a single in the 3rd inning, but the batters who followed him in the lineup surrendered quickly. Derek Hill hit a double, then made it to 3rd base in the next play. Again, the Phillies batters returned empty-handed, leaving him on base.

The Nats’ defense even made two throwing errors. But Philadelphia couldn’t capitalize on either of them.

On top of that, Nationals’ 1B Curtis Mead hit a 2-run homer and helped take the lead to 4-1 for Washington.

The divisional rivalry between the Phillis and the Nats is intense. The Phillies lost the series 2-1 when they visited D.C. earlier in the season. Now they are hosting them in a four-game series.

Clayton Beeter helped the Nationals secure the lead out of the bullpen. And he took the rivalry to another level, noting how they always get “a little extra juice against [the Phillies].”

Philadelphia needs to make a comeback soon enough, as the Nationals are breathing down their neck with a 1.5-game gap in the NL East.

The Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies share a bitter rivalry, and right now both teams are fighting hard for a playoff spot. This makes their current series very important. On Monday, the Nationals won the first game 4-1. But the biggest moment happened after the game was over. A 27-year-old relief pitcher spoke up. He showed he is becoming a fiery leader for his team.

After using only six pitches to end the game, Clayton Beeter made it clear that beating Philadelphia is very special.

“It fires us up. I mean, I don’t think there’s any team we want to beat more than the Phillies,” Beeter replied to a reporter asking about his take on the win. “I think we always just got a little extra juice against them.”

It was a tough fight between the two teams. The Phillies reduced the gap from 2-0 to 2-1 at the top of the 7th. But the Nationals increased it further with two more runs in the bottom of the same. Clayton Beeter entered the mound in the 9th with a three-run lead. And it took him only six pitches to win the game. Beeter might not be an elite, but his sixth save of the season brought a lot of joy for his team.

The Nats and the Phillies share an intense divisional rivalry since the former moved to D.C. in 2025. The difference between Nationals Park (Washington) and Citizens Bank Park (Philadelphia) is hardly a two-and-a-half-hour drive along the I-95 corridor. Fans often visit the other team’s stadium to support their own team.

The rivalry became so intense during 2012 that the Washington front office had to deliberately try to limit the number of Philadelphia fans at Nationals Park.

And the current situation also adds extra tension since the Phillies are 2nd in the NL East with a 42-36 record while the Nats are just behind them with 41-38. This means a series sweep can change the scene for Washington. But the rivalry isn’t limited to the teams. It took a uglier turn when an individual switched sides.

Bryce Harper made his MLB debut with the Nationals in 2012. He spent seven years in Washington before signing a 13-year, $330 million deal with the Phillies. The 8x All-Star is in his 8th season with Philadelphia, yet he earns loud boos from the Nationals fans whenever he visits his former home.

But Beeter didn’t allow Harper to silence the boos with a homer this time. He did allow a single but wrapped the inning before any damage.

Beeter earns a bigger voice

Clayton Beeter’s voice isn’t just an excitement for one win. It actually depicts how he gradually became an important part of the organization. The righty started his MLB journey with the New York Yankees in 2024. He had a hard time there because of shoulder injuries. He only played five games for the Yankees before they traded him to the Nationals.

Last year was good for him. He played 24 games with his new team last season and recorded a 2.49 ERA.

This season, his numbers are less impressive as Beeter has a 3.47 ERA over 22 games. But he has six saves and held three leads. He managed two back-to-back saves twice this season.

His rise looked unlikely a year ago. But now he is one of the most dependable arms in the Nationals’ roster.

It hasn’t been a year since Clayton Beeter arrived in Washington, and he already understands what it means for the organization and the fanbase to beat the Phillies. His passion is evident in both his words and his performance. And this is exactly the kind of energy the Washington Nationals expect from a pitcher who quietly became one of their trusted bullpen arms.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. has never been one to shy away from the spotlight. This time the incident though wasn’t exactly new. In fact, it was something he had already gotten away with once before. This time though, the Yankee star’s repeat act finally reached Boone’s ears. Let’s just say that his response made it clear, he has run out of patience.

During the game that Yankees lost against the Tigers by 3-5 in, Chisholm was spotted with a Blow Pop in his mouth. Plus, he was not trying to hide it from the camera too rather relishing his treat! Aaron Boone didn’t find it funny, as he finally drew a line of patience.

“That p—-s me off,” Boone said via Talkin’ Yanks. “I didn’t know about it until after the game. He and I talked about that. That won’t be going on. I’m not on that.” But that was not even seemingly his tipping point.

The host of the same podcast broke to Boone that this isn’t Chisholm’s first stint. Chisholm had taken an at-bat with a lollipop earlier this season in Boston. And Boone was bothered by it, and it showed.

“That was the second time? There was another time? Yeah, that’s, I’m not on that,” he said. And the biggest irony was that he enjoyed his lollipop just when Riley Greene scored a solo home run.

Aaron Boone HATED Jazz Chisholm Jr. playing with a lollipop

2:05 Boone joins the show
11:05 Sloppy defense
15:40 Did Boone lie to us last week?
18:20 Jazz played with a lollipop
21:00 Tonight's lineup
27:45 Cam Schlittler All-Star starter? pic.twitter.com/p9catDNTbL

— Talkin' Yanks (@TalkinYanks) June 23, 2026

Other than that, Chisholm returned with a 1-for-4 stat in the game, striking out twice. So, nothing to be proud of for his manager. The worst part though is the fact that this was not his first time pulling off this move.

As far as Chisholm and his probable defense goes, he can cite the lack of transparency here. There is no official MLB rule prohibiting players from eating on the field or in the dugout during a game. Because games can last several hours, players frequently eat snacks to maintain their energy. However, eating while actively on the diamond (rather than the dugout or bullpen) is generally discouraged for safety and focus. But Chisholm’s repeated attention-grabbing antics may be turning costly this time. That’s not all from Jazz Chisholm on Tuesday.

In the 4th inning, Chisholm attempted to bury an infield dirt camera near the second base, which delayed the game by around six minutes at Comerica Park.

“I’m just trying to work here,” Tigers’ broadcaster Jason Benetti said. “I can’t see. I’m just trying to watch the game. It’s an obstructed-view seat now. It doesn’t say that on the ticket.”

Last year, in a game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Chisholm violated MLB’s policies by posting a rant about the umpire for getting ejected over a called strike three. He posted it from the dugout on social media before the game had even ended. Last February, he was even vocal about asking for more from the Yankees.

“I’d say no because I know I can get $35 million somewhere else,” Chisholm said when asked if he would accept an offer worth $25 million AAV. “That’s $10 million less a year. … I’m 28. I want 8-to-10 years.”

However, considering how things are going, Boone may feel less compelled to work with Chisholm beyond 2026. And for Boone, this may be the last chance he got to steps proving his authority over the clubhouse.

Jazz Chisholm is putting question over Boone’s authority

“I’m not saying it from any inside knowledge, but I’m pretty sure Aaron’s not the one that’s calling every move they make throughout the game,” Derek Jeter said last year after the Yankees lost the ALDS to the Toronto Blue Jays. While GM Brian Cashman has a higher say in the Yankees’ offseason and decisions, it is still debatable if Cashman has the same authority over the clubhouse, or if Boone is the last man calling there.

For the Yankees, coming from the George Steinbrenner era, Chisholm doing such stuff and getting away may be too odd. Last time, when Chisholm wondered about the fielding rule in front of the reporters after his mental gaffe against the Rays, Boone defended, saying, “You guys are around — Jazz is not a dumb guy. So it’s just sometimes how you present yourself in certain situations.” But defending Chisholm’s antics may cost Boone’s authority in the clubhouse.

Could a player get away with having a blow pop on the field under Steinbrenner? We wonder. Boone needs to prove that he is still the guy who takes the call over the clubhouse. Otherwise, Chisholm might prove true to Jeter’s assumption in the coming time.

In a battle of the best between the AL Central toppers, three rookies emerged as the heroes of the Chicago White Sox’s walk-off victory on Monday. It was a wild game against the Cleveland Guardians, as the White Sox surrendered their lead twice in the game. But Chicago’s 23-year-old phenom Sam Antonacci came to the rescue. Antonacci has been the team’s best offensive spark this season. He is currently batting an impressive .291/.391/.422 in his rookie year.

His game-winning hit won the game for the White Sox. This 6-5 victory was huge for the playoff race. With a 40-37 record after the game, the White Sox are just ahead of the 41-38 Guardians in the AL Central. After the crazy finish, the rookie left fielder talked about team spirit. He also defended his struggling teammate from angry fans.

“Baseball is a team sport,” Sam Antonacci said in a postgame interview per Jomboy Media. “If you’re mad about giving up two runs in the ninth, take your a— and go play tennis.”

The Chicago White Sox held a one-run lead going into the ninth. It was up to Seranthony Dominguez to close out the game. However, Dominguez ended up blowing his second consecutive save on Monday. He surrendered two hits and a walk, giving the Guardians a 5-4 lead. He started by issuing a walk to Bazzana. But the rookie trio of Antonacci, Colson Montgomery, and Tristan Peters stepped up in the bottom of the frame.

Against Cade Smith, one of the best closers, Montgomery drew a walk, and Peters doubled, putting runners on base. With two outs and the White Sox still trailing by a run, Antonacci came to the plate. On a fastball from Smith, he hit a two-run single, bringing Peters and Montgomery home.

— Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) June 23, 2026

However, for a minute, it was uncertain whether the White Sox had truly won. The play near Peters was so close that the Guardians challenged the call. However, the call was upheld, sending Rate Field into a frenzy.

Following the game, Antonacci’s statement was simple and clear.

“This is a team sport. We’ve got each guy’s back, and we’re just trying to keep the train moving.”

The rookie trio really did carry the White Sox all night, whenever there was trouble. Against the Guardians, Chicago held an early 3-0 lead through six scoreless innings. But Anthony Kay’s 101-pitch, eight-strikeout effort was nullified when relief pitching took over. Grant Taylor conceded three runs in the seventh, letting the Guardians tie the score. However, Antonacci and Montgomery came forward then, too.

Montgomery hit the leadoff double in the seventh, before Antonacci’s RBI single put the White Sox in the lead. In his debut season, Antonacci already has four home runs and 22 RBI.

Following his 2-for-4 effort, Antonacci compared the feeling to the playoffs. He told MLB.com, “We said in there, that’s kind of what a playoff game is going to feel like. Just looking forward to keep putting good days ahead.”

The last time three White Sox rookies came forward with walk-off wins was in 2021. Nick Madrigal, Yermín Mercedes, and Gavin Sheets all hit walk-off winning runs at different points of the season. That 2021 rookie group helped the White Sox to an AL Central title. Now, this new rookie class faces the same pressure to get to the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Seranthony Dominguez has expressed his feelings following his blown save.

Seranthony Dominguez thankful for the win

Seranthony Dominguez had back-to-back chances to save games for the Chicago White Sox. He blew both. His first chance came on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers. Pitching at the bottom of the ninth, the closer had to save a 3-2 lead. But he gave up three hits and one earned run to tie the score. The White Sox ultimately lost the game 5-4.

However, on Monday, despite blowing a save on consecutive days, fate was in Chicago’s favor as Antonacci hit the walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. Following the game, Dominguez said he was happy the team won, and he knows he needs to pitch better.

“Fortunately, we won today,” Dominguez told MLB.com postgame. “That’s a great comeback for the guys, and they did a great job. My goal is to get better and try to help the team win.”

Reflecting on his outing on the mound, he further added, “You can’t walk the first guy. I have to be better than that. How can I tell you? It’s a tough moment for me right now. I couldn’t get a save yesterday. I couldn’t get a save today.”

Dominguez has blown five saves this season, holding a 3-3 record. He has posted a 4.45 ERA in 31 games.

The Boston Red Sox appeared to be on the path to a routine win with two outs and a 2-0 lead in the late game during the first matchup at Colorado. Instead, Colorado Rockies player Jake McCarthy hit a huge triple with the bases loaded. This hit completely changed the game. It erased Boston’s lead and gave Colorado a 3-2 walk-off victory. But interim Chad Tracy’s immediate reaction didn’t hint toward any frustration. He praised the Rockies for hitting so well with the bases full.

“There’s not much to say. Sometimes you’ve got to tip your cap. They took some good at-bats.” Tracy said after his team suffered a 3-2 loss on Monday. “You’ve got to give some credit on the other side, too, with how fast it happened. I mean, it was quick. You know, they were aggressive, looked like being aggressive off Whitty and Chappie.”

This was the very first time all season that the Red Sox lost a game after leading in the seventh inning. But this late collapse fits a bad pattern for Boston. The Red Sox have a terrible 6-12 record in June. They have blown multiple late leads recently because their bullpen pitchers are struggling. Their issues are very similar to those of their division rival, the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are also having huge bullpen problems and have lost seven close games by one run this month.

The Red Sox entered their second road series on the trip after securing a 2-1 win against the Seattle Mariners. They went ahead with a 2-0 lead at the top of the 6th. However, everything changed with McCarthy‘s triple against Boston reliever Aroldis Chapman with bases loaded.

Before the bad news in the ninth inning, the Boston bullpen was actually doing a good job. In the eighth inning, Boston relief pitcher Garrett Whitlock got into some trouble. They had runners on first and second base with just one out. Mickey Moniak even made it to the third, but Will Catro’s out ultimately ended their chances.

“There’s not much to say, sometimes you have to tip your cap, and they took some good at-bats.” – Chad Tracy. pic.twitter.com/snFCCJKZnC

— Tyler Milliken (@tylermilliken_) June 23, 2026

They were more aggressive in the following inning. The Rockies’ batters made contact with every hitable pitch, eager to establish their dominance. The result? Colorado got its bases loaded when McCarthy came to the plate. And like his predecessors on the lineup, he too didn’t hesitate to hit the ball. His triple off Chapman’s sinker helped each of the runners score.

And the Red Sox’s brutal collapse despite a late-inning lead was the first of this season. Chad Tracy now has a 21-28 record since taking over the job following Alex Cora’s shock exit. And Boston sits at the bottom of the AL East with a 31-45 record.

Yet, the Boston manager didn’t feel like his boys did a bad job.

Why Chad Tracy didn’t fault Boston’s relievers

30-year-old Whitlock has a 2.66 ERA and 28 Ks this season. He has managed 10 holds with a 4-1 record so far. And his .233 opposition batting average makes him one of the most dependable relievers for Boston.

Chapman is even better with his veteran experience. He managed a 2.08 ERA with 14 saves, allowing just 5 runs over 21.2 innings. This was his first blown save of the season. His .200 OBA shows why the team puts so much faith in him.

Even the president and CEO, Sam Kennedy, highlighted Chapman as one of the successful parts of Boston’s otherwise failed offseason moves.

That’s why Tracy didn’t throw them under the bus. And they aren’t the only bright spots from Monday’s game. Jake Bennet did well to restrict the Rockies from scoring for 6.0 innings and struck out nine batters. Caleb Durbin almost increased the lead for Boston, reaching third base in the ninth. He has gone 10-for 17 in his last five games.

Unfortunately, none of these mattered in the previous game. Rockies attacked good pitches at the very end to clinch the win. Tracy felt the opponents played better. But if the Red Sox want to start making a run to clinch a playoff spot, they can’t afford such defeats.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred admitted the league made a mistake in warning Giants players for writing Bible verses on Pride Night caps. The trouble started on June 12. San Francisco Giants pitchers Landen Roupp, JT Brubaker, and Ryan Walker wrote “Gen 9:12-16” on their rainbow hats during a game against the Chicago Cubs. MLB viewed it as a violation of its policy prohibiting any alteration to jerseys. This caused a lot of anger from fans and politicians. Even US Vice President JD Vance spoke out against MLB.

The controversy escalated to the federal level. The Department of Justice (DOJ) referred the case to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). MLB finally chose to step forward. In a letter to Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, Manfred admitted the warning was wrong.

“MLB Commissioner writes to me and admits they were wrong to threaten the Giants players over Bible verses and promises never to fine or discipline these players – or any players for their religious beliefs,” Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri shared the copy of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred‘s response via X.

Manfred explained that players do not have to wear Pride logos. It was the team’s job to tell the players they had a choice.

“MLB agreed to allow them to utilize the hats/uniforms with the emblems, provided that no player or uniformed staff would be required to wear them. And that the team would speak to the players to make sure they were comfortable with the apparel… Unfortunately, this year the Giants’ communication with players was inadequate and not clear. Some players apparently did not understand that they had the option to wear their normal uniform. They elected to add messages to their hats bearing the Pride logo as a result. The Giants players were allowed to wear the hats with the biblical references for the entire game. After the game had concluded, my office issued a routine oral warning about the uniform policy violation. Unfortunately, it was issued before we became aware of the Giants’ lapse in communication.” MLB’s letter to Hawley blamed the Giants for the mishap.

.@MLB Commissioner writes to me and admits they were wrong to threaten the Giants players over Bible verses and promises never to fine or discipline these players – or any players for their religious beliefs pic.twitter.com/rnPy2F7fyR

— Josh Hawley (@HawleyMO) June 22, 2026

The federal investigation actually forced MLB to act. The DOJ referred the case to the EEOC before Manfred wrote his letter to Hawley. Last week, MLB was also reprimanded by Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, Harmeet Dhillon. She launched an investigation into whether the league violated the Civil Rights Act. Under the act, it is against the law for employers to treat workers badly because of their religion. Employers must make reasonable changes for religious beliefs.

If the EEOC finds MLB or the Giants guilty of religious discrimination, they could face big fines, lawsuits, and forced changes to their rules.

After Manfred’s response, the Giants may now also face the probe. It was always mandatory for the respective clubs to communicate with their players about the special events to be commemorated. The players have the option to decline the event and continue with their regular terms. On Pride Night, the Giants’ players had the option to decline the rainbow-themed caps and play with their regular caps. Another Giants pitcher, Sam Hentges, did just that on the same night.

So, were the players not informed about this, or did they still choose to write Biblical verses? Investigations will prove, but for now, MLB has surely dragged the Giants into the turmoil.

From MLB’s perspective, it is also responsible for ensuring players are being properly informed about the terms of an event. Before the DOJ, they were supposed to question the Giants for botching up the event, if any. However, now the Giants may also face the DOJ after Manfred’s clarifications.

This is something the Giants would like to avoid, considering their already tumultuous on-field scene.

2026 is proving to be a nightmare for the Giants

The Giants had around a $225 million payroll for this year. Yet they are currently ranked fourth in the division with a 31-46 record. The biggest reason could be Rafael Devers. Last year, the Giants traded Devers from the Boston Red Sox for around $250 million, still pending till 2033, in view that he could arm up the lineup. Reality was different.

Devers is hitting only .238 so far this year and might be developing bad blood with the front office, same as last year with the Red Sox.

In Sunday’s game against the Miami Marlins, Devers drew a leadoff walk in the ninth inning with the Giants trailing 2-1. He was typically a slow runner, and Tony Votello opted to replace him with Jonah Cox as the pinch runner. Devers tried to resist the move and even gestured to Cox to get back to the dugout. While Devers was finally pulled out, he was seen avoiding a pat from Vitello in the dugout, hinting at a brewing face-off.

“Devers is trying to send Cox back to the dugout,” NBC Sports Bay Area play-by-play announcer Dave Flemming said. “He literally waved him away.”

The Giants may try to give up on Devers by the trade deadline, but their season is fast losing its steam. Facing a federal probe would now be the worst thing to happen to the club.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. sucked on a green Blow-Pop at second base while the Yankees trailed 4-1. On Monday night in Detroit, the camera focused on the infielder during the fifth inning. He was not making a great baseball play. Instead, he was casually eating candy while his team was losing to the Tigers. This strange moment perfectly shows why New York Yankees fans are losing patience with their highly paid star.

“Jazz Chisholm Jr. is playing second base with a blow pop in his mouth,” reported Talkin’ Yanks, and this was when the Yankees were trailing the Tigers 4-1.

The game ended with Detroit getting a 5-3 victory. For many fans, the candy became a symbol of larger concerns surrounding Chisholm’s season. That frustration has grown because Chisholm’s production continues falling short of expectations time and again.

Through 74 games, he is batting .226 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs. His recent numbers paint an even tougher picture, as he hit just .176 over the last 15 games. Those struggles have coincided with increasing criticism from Yankees supporters, who expected more offensive impact. And this bad time has come with the All-Star voting deadline ending in late June. Chisholm recently slipped to fourth among AL players for second base.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is playing second base with a blow pop in his mouth pic.twitter.com/sJo7B2ZAzq

— Talkin’ Yanks (@TalkinYanks) June 22, 2026

The voting updates showed him trailing Ernie Clement, Ezequiel Duran, and Jose Altuve by a significant margin. As the votes continue piling against him, his place among the best is also slipping.

What makes this even more frustrating for fans is the fact that Jazz thinks its market is big.

Before the season started, Jazz Chisholm Jr. said, “What did I tell you last year? $300 million? It’s probably bigger than that now, probably $35 million,” after his current contract ends in 2026.

But players who ask for that sum of money produce All-Star numbers, while Jazz Chisholm’s is not even the best on his own team.

Chisholm’s current average, on-base percentage, and OPS place him nowhere near that price range. Even his strongest fans would say that his game on the field has not supported his talk off it.

The Yankees desperately need him to play better right now. Team captain Aaron Judge will miss several weeks with a cracked rib. The team expected veteran players like Chisholm to score runs while Judge heals.

But we are learning quickly that the Yankees are not getting any help from him. With Jazz having just six hits in his last 10 games, the Yankees are also not able to give their best. This is not the first time people have questioned his focus in 2026.

Earlier this season, fans thought he was wearing an Apple AirPod in his ear while playing defense. (This was later proven false). He was also thrown out of a game against the Tampa Bay Rays for screaming at umpires. After that, MLB suspended him for one game because he posted an angry rant online. Now, this lollipop incident is making his bad reputation even worse

For now, fans are watching a team searching for momentum while one of its biggest personalities remains under an uncomfortable spotlight.

Yankees fans are not happy with how casual Jazz Chisholm Jr. acts on the field

The Yankees fan base is very angry about the candy incident. MLB rules do not strictly ban eating a lollipop on the field. However, most people agree it is highly unprofessional. It shows a lack of focus during a live game.

“George Steinbrenner would be rolling in his grave seeing this,” said a fan. While another commented, “This is embarrassing. I wonder what George Steinbrenner would think about it.” And all these emotions from fans are right.

We always knew how George Steinbrenner kept his players in line as an owner of the franchise, like the no-beard rule. But under Hal Steinbrenner’s Era, things have changed massively. The no-beard rule doesn’t exist anymore, and players are sucking on lollipops while playing. This is not a question for Jazz, but for the whole organization.

During the George Steinbrenner Era, anything less than a World Series was considered a failure. But that level of standard has dropped, and now the team is happy with making the postseason. And fans are now questioning if this is a result of the drop in standards.

“He’s sucking at baseball this season as he sucks on that Blow Pop,” said a fan talking about how the season has progressed for the Yankees player. And another backed him by saying, “He has 10 hits and 20 strikeouts in the month of June, and we still have a week left.”

In the last 18 games, Jazz has an average of .183 and has just 11 RBIs, while the Yankees have scored 87 runs in total. This isn’t something that has given the fans hope of a good postseason. While players like Bellinger and Rice are doing a good job, they can’t carry this team alone.

“His Yankee career is coming to an end. Bro needs a wake-up call,” shows how serious the Yankee fans are about their team. And another fan told what should have happened and commented, “Unprofessional and deserving of replacement right then and there.”

We have seen him act this way before against the Royals. He was so pissed after a tag that he said, “I’ll smack him,” showing that he has never been in line with professionalism. And a wake-up call is coming if he doesn’t step up for the team in the coming games.

The Rays are not going through an easy time and have lost 7 of the last 10 games. But they are still only two games behind the Yankees. If the Yankees start to slip without Judge, it is only a matter of time before the Rays overtake them.

So the Yankees can’t afford to have someone on the team who is decent at defense and horrible at offense because the Yankees already have Volpe to fill that criteria. And the Yankees can’t afford this because the same happened last season, where the Yankees went into the Wild Card and had to play extra games before going to the ALDS, where they got whooped.

If the New York Yankees want to have a winning chance this season, they should do a good job in the regular season and have players who are ready to step up for the team.

Pitching injuries have ruined Toronto’s 2026 season. Now, Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins is ready to act. The team started the year with many hurt pitchers, and the list just keeps growing. Max Scherzer, Shane Bieber, and Jose Berrios are still on the IL, and it is affecting their place in the standings. Their 39-39 record is better than their bad start in April, but they do not have enough healthy pitchers. The Blue Jays’ boss Ross Atkins acknowledged this reality as he revealed the team’s trade deadline plan.

“Speaking to the media at Rogers Centre, Ross Atkins says starting pitching is likely atop the Blue Jays’ wish list at the trade deadline. Atkins says he likes Jays’ current group but has interest in more because you can never have enough starters,” MLB insider Ben Nicholson-Smith shared via X.

The Blue Jays are currently ranked 23rd in terms of scoring runs (320) and 8th in terms of average (.250). But their pitching is 15th with a 4.10 ERA. This sounds shocking for a team built around great pitchers, but it shows just how bad their injuries are.

Scherzer is on a 15-day IL with back spasms. He threw a bullpen session and is feeling better, but his exact activation date is still not known. Then, Yimi García is on a 60-day IL. He had to stop his minor league practice games because his elbow hurts again. He is reportedly meeting with team doctors to map out next steps.

José Berríos underwent Tommy John surgery on May 20, effectively ending his 2026 season. Cody Ponce is suffering from a right ACL sprain. He underwent surgery and will miss the year.

With these big names out, the healthy pitchers have to work extra hard. Among those, the Jays’ 2025 breakout star, Trey Yesavage, is struggling right now. He started the year from the IL and returned with a 5 scoreless innings against the Boston Red Sox. However, that momentum hasn’t carried on. Since May 25, he has allowed 17 ERs from 22.1 innings till June 13.

It has left the Jays with Dylan Cease as the only other performing starter with a 2.75 ERA so far.

The Blue Jays are currently 7.5 games behind the AL East lead and 1 game up for a Wild Card spot. Teams like the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners are fighting them for that spot. Atkins must add a reliable starting pitcher if he wants to turn them back into a World Series team.

The Blue Jays could get spoiled by choices

Tarik Skubal is the biggest name rumored to be available by the deadline. The Tigers’ continued regression is making it more realistic.

“Now that it’s becoming inevitable that the free-falling Detroit Tigers may have no choice but to trade two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal at the deadline, rival executives believe the bidding will come down to four finalists who not only can afford the remainder of his $32 million contract, but will also be willing to give up prized prospects. The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and San Diego Padres,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale predicted.

The Blue Jays, they need immediate impact, and no one could take this opportunity better than Skubal. However, the Tigers are seeking top prospects from the potential suitors. Looking at recent history, Toronto has a clear pattern of making trades when it comes to pitching at the deadline. When they are losing, they sell, just like in 2024 when they traded away pitchers Yusei Kikuchi and Yimi García to gather prospects.

They also traded top prospects for Berríos in 2021, and they traded for Cease last winter. We will see if Atkins is willing to give up top minor league players like JoJo Parker and Arjun Nimmala to beat the Dodgers and Yankees.

The New York Mets, similar to the Tigers’ situation, may wish to give up Freddy Peralta in order to get a few new names. While his 4.83 ERA this year seems a dealbreaker, Peralta is better than this. He is a two-time All-Star who won 17 games just last year. Because there are so few good pitchers available, the Blue Jays might take a chance on Peralta to save their season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers had high expectations when they invested $240 million in Kyle Tucker. In reality, Tucker could only score 6 homers at .234 so far this year. Additionally, there was always a risk of injury with Tucker, as it cut short his journey last year with the Chicago Cubs. The Dodgers still chose to make a bet, but Monday proved that the Dodgers may be losing it. And the worst part is that Monday made their catcher issue a bit more challenging.

“Kyle Tucker was removed from tonight’s game, and the Dodgers are saying it’s due to back spasms,” Talkin’ Baseball shared via X.

At the top of the second inning, Dalton Rushing was at the plate (his only at-bat on Monday) with two outs, and Tucker covering second base. But Rushing was stopped from making a swing, and footage showed Tucker in pain in the bag. Manager Dave Roberts asked Tucker to get back to the dugout. It was later reported that Tucker is suffering from lower back spasms.

Just before he was scratched off the field, Tucker drew a walk off the Minnesota Twins’ Zebby Matthews. But just as he left, the Dodgers replaced him with Alex Call. “I really felt it like when we went out for defense in between innings in the first,” Tucker said after the game. “Back just like lit up and went out there just tried to hope that it would calm down or go away or something, I’d just keep flying through it … finishing the swing hurt.”

Kyle Tucker was removed from tonight’s game and the Dodgers are saying it’s due to back spasms pic.twitter.com/Yo8fanDpb7

— Talkin' Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) June 23, 2026

However, Tucker would stay on a day-to-day basis for now, and according to Roberts, he was pulled out more as a precautionary measure than due to a confirmed injury.

“Back spasmed up and right when we took the field,” Roberts said. “I saw him take his at bat — a little bit of wincing and kind of when he was jogging to first base. And then once he got to second base, I think it was just more not seeing him move the right way, and I didn’t want to put him in any more jeopardy. And so I thought it was just smart to pivot right there.”

Kyle Tucker had an extensive injury history during his stint with the Cubs. Last June, he sustained a hairline fracture in his right hand. He initially decided to play through the injury. However, the discomfort caused a noticeable spike in his ground-ball rate and led to a slump in his offensive production during the summer months. Then again in September, Tucker went on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain. He missed nearly the entire final month of the regular season.

The Dodgers were aware of this risk, but they still chose to spend $240 million. Now that Tucker is out of action, fans fear that his last year’s jinx is back again.

For the Dodgers, Tucker’s injury was not the only concern on Monday; Rushing’s was as well.

On Monday, Rushing had his only at-bat in the second inning before he was scratched off due to concussion protocol. “Dalton Rushing left the game to rule out a concussion,” the Dodgers posted via X. In the first inning, a foul tip hit Rushing’s mask. While he continued his play, the Dodgers chose to drop him. Chuckie Robinson replaced him as the catcher.

“It was the first pitch of the game, got me square on the top of the head,” Rushing said after the game. “My brain was just pounding for the next couple of innings and even through that first at-bat – it was a one-pitch at-bat – but as bad as it sounds, I was looking for a strike today because it wasn’t comfortable.” It was his history of head injuries that ultimately forced the Dodgers to pull him out.

This all makes the Dodgers’ catcher scenario a bit tough. Their primary catcher, Will Smith, is still out of action with neck stiffness. Now, after Rushing’s removal, the Dodgers are left with promoting someone from the minors. The most likely name would be Triple-A catcher Eliezer Alfonzo. He is slashing .306/.395/.410 this season. But could he replace Rushing’s .821 OPS this year? Alfonzo currently has a .805 OPS, and most importantly, the Dodgers may not have any other option to replace Rushing.

Time will answer how the Dodgers could get away from this situation.

Ken Rosenthal is questioning Boston’s logic: why trade Willson Contreras, the one guy giving them power? The Boston Red Sox are sitting in last place in the American League East. Because they are losing so much, the front office is getting ready to sell off players before the trade deadline. But rumors about trading their star first baseman have sparked a heated debate. Contreras is carrying the team right now. He is batting .282 with an excellent .903 OPS and 16 home runs.

He is playing on a 5-year, $87.5 million contract, which makes him a highly valuable asset. The Red Sox have a painful history of trading away their most productive veterans. Fans still remember the team trading star Mookie Betts in 2020 and catcher Christian Vázquez in 2022. Now, Rosenthal is warning Boston not to make the same mistake again.

“Here’s my question. Why would the Red Sox want to trade Willson Contreras? He’s the one guy in the lineup who, from the right side, gives them power,” said Rosenthal on the recent Foul Territory podcast.

Willson Contreras has become one of the few bright spots in a difficult season for the Boston Red Sox. That is why Ken Rosenthal was surprised when trade rumors involving the 34-year-old veteran first baseman started to surface. Contreras has taken over at first base while Triston Casas deals with injuries, and he leads the team in almost every hitting category.

Rosenthal questioned why the Red Sox would even think about moving one of their most productive players.

The veteran insider pointed out that Willson Contreras remains under contract beyond this season. Boston controls him through 2027 and also holds a club option for 2028. That makes him far more valuable than a typical trade candidate.

If the Red Sox intend to compete next year, why trade Willson Contreras?

“He’s the one guy in the lineup who, from the right side, gives them power.” pic.twitter.com/wP1SpnQPCg

— Foul Territory (@FoulTerritoryTV) June 22, 2026

For a team searching for reliable hitters, those years of control matter. Rosenthal’s argument becomes even stronger when looking at Contreras’ production this season. He has delivered some of Boston’s biggest offensive performances while the club has struggled for consistency.

Earlier this month, he hit two home runs against Texas and continued a stretch in which he batted close to .400 in June. The move away from catching has also helped preserve his bat and keep him healthier. At 34, Contreras is producing at a level few expected entering the season.

Trading him would also create a problem that Boston may not be able to solve quickly.

The organization spent years trying to find answers at multiple positions after established players departed. First base looked uncertain before Contreras arrived, and Casas’ injuries have only highlighted that reality. While contenders would likely offer strong packages for his services, replacing his production would be extremely difficult.

That is why Rosenthal believes moving Willson Contreras would make little sense unless Boston’s season completely falls apart.

If the Red Sox want to trade, Cleveland is a good landing spot

Trade rumors around Willson Contreras continue as the deadline approaches. The Cleveland Guardians are starting to look like a strong landing spot, given the lineup’s urgent need for power.

The proposed trade sends Willson Contreras to Cleveland for Braylon Doughty and Welbyn Francisca in return. Boston receives Braylon Doughty, a right-hand pitcher, and Welbyn Francisca, a shortstop, who are considered to be some of the top prospects in the pipeline.

Doughty brings high-ceiling pitching potential with an elite breaking ball that has been predicted to be one of the best in the league. The problem is that Doughty’s injury slowed his development in 2025, but he seems to have returned with some decent numbers. Although he has an ERA of 3.35, he has given away just four homers in 53.2 innings.

Francisca adds a switch-hitting batter in the offense and an infield glove in defense, and with both being prospects, the Red Sox have a lot of upside. In the nine games he has played for the Guardians in 2026, he has hit just 1 homer. But when you look at his stats in the minors, things look better. He has hit three homers with 12 RBIs in 13 games. This makes his power something the Red Sox could use right now.

With this move, Boston will move Contreras and convert peak value into something that will help the team with the prospect depth for the future. With the team sitting last in the AL East, they can focus on a long-term rebuild, especially with the team being six games behind a wild-card spot.

This trade would also free Boston from paying the rest of Contreras’ massive contract. Cleveland would have to pay his guaranteed $17 million salary for 2027. Then they can later look at the 2028 option based on how the season goes.

The Guardians’ lineup will improve the power balance and help the postseason chase for the AL Central. This is one of the best deals that can happen for both the team, and that is why we shouldn’t be surprised if we see Contreras in a different uniform after the trade deadline.
