Ahead of his professional debut, 2020 Olympic Gold medalist Andy Cruz spoke against “easy tasks” in boxing. In this context, the 27-year-old who would square off against Juan Carlos Burgos in his pro debut emphasized the idea of facing a challenging opponent in the ring. The Cuban boxer, who has had a total of 149 amateur fights, is of the opinion that fighters deserve to offer fans only competitive fights.

Contrary to boxers who avoid challenges and prefer a sure-shot victory, Andy Cruz demands an opponent who will test his skills inside the ring. In fact, Andy Cruz has already branded his upcoming debut against Burgos as an “acid test” in his recent interaction with IFL TV. In this connection, it is also worth mentioning that he would debut with the IBF International Light title on the line.

According to Andy Cruz, who might even fight Gervonta Davis, there are no easy opponents for him to face in the ring. He feels there is no credibility in squaring off against an easy opponent in the sport. “Personally, I don’t believe in having easy tasks in boxing. There are no easy tasks, no easy opponents. If you are given an easy opponent, there’s no real credibility with accepting those fights and tasks,” he told Boxing Scene. In his opinion, Burgos is an opponent who would challenge him. Thus he said, “What we chose to do is face an opponent who will challenge us. That’s what we deserve to give to the fans.”

In the same vein, in his recent interview with IFL TV, Cruz called the fight against Burgos “the acid test“. “It’s what I wanted to do. I felt like I had achieved practically everything in the amateur game. It was time to look for a new source of motivation. To go on and win awards and become victorious in the professional game,” he added ahead of his pro debut.
