Legacy or money? Floyd Mayweather makes his choice known. In a recent interview, ‘TBE,’ weighs in on boxing pundits making comparisons between him and other legendary boxers. In particular, he shed light on having fewer belts than some of his counterparts. Mayweather is the former champion in 5 different weight classes which is nothing to scoff at. However, he often gets compared to his rival Manny Pacquiao, an eight-division belt holder.

That being said, Mayweather could not be less bothered about the same. Throughout his career, the billionaire boxer was chasing something other than his legacy. So let’s find out what Mayweather gives more importance to than his own legacy.

Floyd Mayweather on being known as the ‘smart fighter’

Being known as the best boxer in the world was just one of Mayweather’s wishes. But, most importantly, he would like to be remembered as the smartest fighter ever. In retrospect, Mayweather, throughout his career took minimal damage. Not only has he never been knocked out but also never been knocked down. In an interview with FightHype, he stated, “When I was in the sport, I wanted to be world champion, I wanted to be the best. He added, “But then it gets to a point, you say, I’ll let you guys argue and talk about who won the most belts. When the history book is written, you will see Floyd Mayweather, out of all the fighters as the smartest one.”

In addition, he expressed that he does not care about other boxers having more belts than him. His priority is to chase fortune and is focused on earning as he calls it, “Big cheques.” He stated, “You all can win the most belts, that’s fine, I wanted the most cheques. I wanted the biggest cheques.” Even today, the boxer is fighting in exhibitions and earning more than many world champions. Let’s take a look at what he had to say to that.

Reportedly, Mayweather earns a lot of money to fight in exhibition matches. In the same interview, he stated, “I don’t know the numbers they are getting. They could be getting seven million, eight million, ten million. Remember this, I don’t leave anything on the table. Even with these exhibitions, why do you keep doing it? It’s free money.”
