Monaco Grand Prix 2019 History

The Monaco Grand Prix 2019 is one once the few circuits that is steeped in history. In fact, the races were held before the Formula One World Champion came into being. The very first race was held in 1929 by the Automobile Club de Monaco president, Anthony Noghes.

The inaugural winner was William Grover Williams in a Bugatti Type 35B. However, the race was by invitation only, but not many elected to attend. So, the likes of Alfa Romeo and Maserati were largely absent. The races continued for a while, but the Second World War put a halt to everything.

Four months after the war, it was business as usual, and then, in 1950, the Formula One World Championship was born. The inaugural Formula One race, in 1950 was won by Juan Manuel Fangio. Barring 1952, which was run according to Formula 2 rules, and the 1953 and 54 seasons, the Monaco Grand Prix has been a regular feature on the F1 calendar.

From 1970 onwards, the track underwent several track changes, courtesy the efforts of Sir Jackie Stewart. Now, the Monaco Grand Prix 2019 is heading into its 65 year in the Formula One championship. The Monaco Grand Prix live qualifying will at 6:30PM IST. Then, on Sunday, the Monaco Grand Prix start timings start from 6:40PM IST. Unfortunately, the Monaco Grand Prix tickets would be sold out already, given that the race weekend has already begun, otherwise, they are generally available on the Formula One website. The Monaco Grand Prix 2018 was won by former Red Bull driver, Daniel Ricciardo, who will find it difficult to repeat his feat.

Circuit Details

The Circuit de Monaco is one of the most well-known street circuits in Formula One. The Monaco Grand Prix has been held at the same circuit from 1955, making it the longest running circuit on the calendar.

The circuit is characterised by numerous elevation changes, tight corners, and a narrow course. These elements make it one of the most demanding tracks in Formula One, as well as one of the most difficult to overtake on. However, the overtaking factor is difficult, but not impossible, so drivers need to pick a spot carefully and trust that the other driver does not put them in the barriers.

Records?

For a long time, Graham Hill had the record for the most wins in Monaco, with 5, earning him the moniker, ?Mr Monaco?. However, Brazilian legend, Ayrton Senna beat that record, with 6 wins and nobody else has come close since. McLaren is the most successful constructor with an astonishing 15 wins.
