Damian Lillard Perplexed As WWE’s Tiffany Steals Familiar Gesture in Elimination Chamber

Many sports athletes, especially those belonging to the NBA, have become renowned for using certain hand gestures or doing a victory dance whenever they succeed in accomplishing a feat. The finger wag in basketball has been mostly attributed to Dikembe Mutombo, while Michael Jordan made the tongue wag his thing. Another player who became renowned for using a particular gesture was Damian Lillard. A gesture which he was recently reminded about.
Just a few hours ago, Lillard took to his official Instagram account to share a story with his 10.4 Million followers, featuring a clip from the official account of the WWE, highlighting a 24-year-old Tiffany Stratton’s recent Elimination Chamber debut. Motivated by the Australian crowd’s chant of “Tiffy Time”, the wrestler could be seen climbing to the top of the pod. She pointed to an imaginary watch on her hand and launched herself in the air to land a Swanton on Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, and Raquel Rodriguez. Despite being eliminated within a few minutes after the incident by Liv Morgan, Stratton’s power move captured the attention of fans and became a memorable highlight for the athlete’s much-awaited debut.
Many were in awe of Stratton’s performance. Lillard’s focus, however, was more toward the wrestler’s ‘wrist point’ gesture. NBA fans might remember it as the very same gesture that the former Portland Trail Blazers player made use of whenever he was successful in hitting clutch baskets during high-pressure situations. Often referred to as the “Dame Time” gesture by fans, the move became synonymous with Lillard ever since he used it during a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder back in 2014.

Along with posting the video on his story, Lillard also wrote a caption. He tagged Stratton’s official Instagram account, added a ‘thinking’ emoji and wrote a simple “lol” alongside it. The WWE wrestler’s move may have brought back some nostalgic memories for the 33-year-old athlete, even if the gesture was ‘stolen’ by her or not.

Ever since Damian Lillard brought out the “Dame Time” gesture almost a decade ago, many of his rivals have opted for the gesture for themselves. Players John Wall and Isaiah Thomas have used it whenever they succeeded in finishing a three-point play or were successful in outsmarting their opponents.
The iconic sign once again came back to the limelight after being used by Indiana Pacers player Tyrese Haliburton. During the NBA In-Season Tournament semi-final that took place a few months ago, the player was successful in delivering a three-pointer in the game’s final moments. To celebrate, he mocked Lillard and the rest of the Bucks by looking at the imaginary watch on his wrist and reportedly shouting “I know what time it is” to the crowd before pointing at himself.

During the post-game presser, Haliburton highlighted the gesture and stated “When you are having your moment, it’s important to be careful, to be humble in your moments because you just never know how the tables are going to turn or when they are going to turn”.
