25 years later and Jordan is still helping this R&B star
During the pandemic, fans at home were treated to one of the greatest docuseries ever created. The Last Dance is a series on Netflix that covered the superstar life of Michael Jordan. Not only did the series help reach mainstream audiences but it also allowed the younger generation to resonate with an era long gone.
While Jordan and the Chicago Bulls saw a rise in their fan base, the series unexpectedly was a boon for R&B singer Kenny Lattimore, who saw his own sales skyrocket.

In the scene where Michael Jordan enters the team bus for Game 1 of the 1998 finals, he’s asked what he is listening to, to which he responds, “Kenny Lattimore, brand new, not even out yet.” Although MJ did love Kenny, who would have thought about the repercussions it would have 25 years later.
Speaking to TMZ about its impact Kenny stated, “The Michael Jordan effect is definitely real! People were like, ‘This is Jordan’s guy,’ or ‘I’m gonna listen to this ’cause this is what Jordan listens to.'”

Michael adores the singer that he helped put on the map
During an appearance on Jemele Hill’s podcast, Kenny Lattimore was asked about Jordan’s admiration for him. Referring to the clip on the docuseries Kenny discussed in detail about how it felt validating for him.

Speaking of it he said, “The production team from ESPN reached out and they said there is a piece in the project where we ask Michael Jordan what he is listening to, and he says Kenny Lattimore.”

Revealing that he had known MJ was a big fan he continued, “I knew he was a fan in general because I lived that.” But there are details that even the man himself doesn’t know of. Speaking of it he said, “I never saw the clip on the bus, I never saw him respond, all I knew was he used to call me to do functions.”
