The Orlando Magic have a star in the making. Paolo Banchero has been in tremendous form this season so far. He is averaging 20.6 points per game and is just 21 years old. However, the consistency in this season alone isn’t enough for two Philadelphia 76ers veterans as they’re still skeptical about his future.
Based on the recent performances of Banchero, his name is now being brought up in conversations about the Magic’s future. In the last game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the 21-year-old scored 42 points with six rebounds while playing for 38 minutes. Despite that, Lou Williams and Danny Green don’t want the franchise to get their hopes high just yet.

For every NBA franchise, spotting and nurturing a young talent is part of their building process. As for Magic, Banchero is proving to be that key element as they proceed further in the league. Currently, they are third in the Eastern Conference with a record of 14-7. The biggest news for the camp is Banchero’s recent form as he has been churning out numbers every game. Recently, Williams and Green were asked about their opinion on the youngster and whether the Orlando franchise should start building around him.
The two veterans rejected the discussion saying that they have only seen him perform at a high level for a very short period. Green said, “I have not seen enough. I think he’s good but… I haven’t seen enough”. Moreover, the 3x NBA champion said that for a team to rely upon and build around an individual, they need to have a more consistent showcase of performances. Green also said that he’s not yet convinced with the consistency factor for Banchero and that it will take him some more time to make such a statement in his favor.

Lou Williams co-signs Danny Green’s assessment
Williams has had a 17-year experience of being part of the league. In that time, he has represented several organizations, so he knows exactly when it is time for a franchise to start relying upon an individual. After Green’s comments, he said “I agree. Just haven’t seen enough of it.” Williams said that there is no doubt about Banchero’s talent and he has seen some success as well recently.
However, as per the 37-year-old, “This is a longevity game”. He said that once he sees that consistency from Banchero, he’ll vouch for him but as of now, he’s not there yet.
