Some NBA players show their true basketball brilliance when they don a coach’s uniform. Former coach Mark Jackson is one of those players who was legendary on the court but also did an exceptional job leading the Golden State Warriors as a coach. Recently, the 1988 Rookie of the Year shared a hilarious story from his playing days in the newest episode of ‘The Mark Jackson Show’.
During the question/answer segment of the show, his co-host and son read a fan’s question to him. Jackson was asked about his first purchase with his first NBA check. As one might assume, the NBA legend indeed bought a luxurious car for himself. However, before we tell you the story behind it, let’s take a look at his best purchase.
Mark Jackson shared that buying a house for his parents was his biggest joy. It was a dream come true for him to be able to give a more comfortable life to his parents. He also bought a car for his father. In fact, he was so ecstatic that during a drive in his father’s expensive Lincoln car, he ended up hitting another car at the red light.

Jackson shared, “Another funny story, I gave them the key, bought my dad a car. I was so excited to buy my dad a Lincoln Car… I’m driving and I’m so excited, I have an accident. I hit somebody on the red light.” He added, “If you ever was able to do something for somebody that you wanted to do your entire life you can understand.”
He had the music to its maximum volume and was grooving along when the accident occurred. Luckily, it wasn’t a serious accident. Lincoln is one of the most luxurious automotive brands. It’s owned by the $49.43 billion worth Ford Motor Company and was purchased for $8 million in 1922. That history just adds value to the purchase Jackson was looking to make.

He also stated that he didn’t need the insurance company to meddle in the situation. That too suggests it possibly wasn’t a big accident and he was saved from paying a hefty fee. While Mark Jackson blames his excessive excitement for the accident, doesn’t he have a justified reason to be on cloud nine?
He had just made it into the league and was living his dream life. In response to his first question, Jackson said how he was encouraged to take some risks while purchasing his car. While his initial choice was the BMW 325, he decided to go for a more lavish choice. He wanted to put pressure on himself to do better and bought the most expensive BMW 735.
