The iconic Mikaela Shiffrin never shies away to make a splash in the world of Alpine skiing. Earlier this week, Shiffrin made it to headlines by clinching her 83rd and 84th world cup victories by winning the giant slalom in Kronplatz, Italy. Following her record-breaking triumph in Italy, Shiffrin surpassed the mark held by compatriot Lindsey Vonn, who has a total of 82 world cups to her name. Now, Shiffrin has girded up her lions to match the record of Swedish legend, Ingemar Stenmark as she headed to Spindleruv Mlyn, Czechia.

Forthwith, bagging the momentous win in Italy, Shiffrin headed to Czechia to make a brawny attempt to win her 85th world cup. Moreover, the women’s slalom races in Spindleruv Mlyn are scheduled for the 28th and 29th of January. Interestingly, as today’s slalom races are already commenced, Shiffrin won the first of the two Slalom races.

Mikaela Shiffrin maintains the first position

With 84 world cup victories under her belt, Shiffrin is approaching her 85th win. The American ski champion continues to run in first place in today’s first Slalom race. Germany’s Lena Duerr and Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova currently hold the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

As the spectators are watching the slalom from the edge of their seats, Shiffrin’s fans are indeed in for some serious adrenaline rush. Now, Shiffrin is only one race away to win her 85th victory.

Jan Ingemar Stenmark is a Swedish former World cup Alpine Ski racer. Stenmark holds 86 world cup victories to his name. However, Shiffrin is now approaching the all-time World Cup win record achieved in 1989 by Stenmark. In fact, she has already won the first slalom race of the tournament. Therefore, matching the momentous record of the Swedish legend is something many expect the American skier to latch on to.
