CS:GO is back at pulling massive crowds and breaking records; only this time, it is online. During the NaVi-Vitality match yesterday in the BLAST Premier Global Final 2020, they set a new viewership record.

During the third map between NaVi and Vitality, a new viewership record was set that made it the most viewed match in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive history. The Dust 2 match saw a peak of 687,691 concurrent viewers.

CS:GO has previously set multiple viewership records with matches that took place between the top teams of the world. The previous record was in fact set in ESL Pro League Season 12 Europe. Then Natus Vincere was facing Astralis in the grand final. That event had a peak of 568,406 concurrent live viewers.

However, that number was broken multiple times in the BLAST Premier Global Final 2020. Interestingly, Natus Vincere is again the common link in the viewership records. From the total of five most viewed games in the BLAST Premier Global Final 2020, four of them had NaVi participating.

The grand finals between NaVi and Astralis also clocked solid numbers in terms of viewership. 645,853 viewers were present to watch NaVi take the first major competitive CS:GO victory in 2021.

The other great combo which pulled record-breaking viewership was Team Liquid vs Natus Vincere. Two of the matches between them on Day 2 clocked 569,159 and 592,089 concurrent viewers, respectively.

S1mple shines in Natus Vincere’s first 2021 major CS:GO victory

Consistency in performance has been a problem for this current NaVi roster. Even with players like s1mple and flamie, NaVi has upset its fans by performing poorly on multiple occasions in 2020. Their last victory came at IEM Katowice 2020. It was the last major offline CS:GO event before the pandemic struck and all competitions were taken online.

Natus Vincere dominated Astralis with a 2-0 win in the grand finals yesterday. They won 16-12 on Nuke and clutched up the series with a highly dominant 16-5 victory on Inferno. NaVi won $600,000 as prize money.

S1mple was the Global Final MVP with a 1.51 K/D and average damage of 89.6 per round. He now has a total MVP count of 12, and he closes his gap with ‘device’ who has an all-time high of 18 MVPs.

Here’s hoping Natus Vincere will continue with their superior form, moving forward to the other major championships that lay ahead in 2021.
