Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat was over the moon when he took a well-deserved third in Hockenheim. However, it was very nearly second place as the drivers reached the closing stages of the race. This was because Sebastian Vettel slithered off at the Mercedes arena on the final lap. In addition to that, with the demons of the 2018 German Grand Prix plaguing him, he slowed down at the hairpin.
This allowed Daniil Kvyat to close right up, but catching up is one thing, passing is a different thing altogether. So, Vettel was able to hold on to 2nd from the Russian, while Max Verstappen took the win.
A superb third place for @kvyatofficial yesterday – but it was very nearly second.
Sebastian Vettel went off in the Mercedes arena on the final lap. He then slowed down a lot in the Motodrom – where he crashed last year. Here's how close they were. #F1 #GermanGP pic.twitter.com/mwilKrcO3M

Meanwhile, Vettel himself, had a hairy moment when he slithered wide and nearly had a repeat of Canada 2011. Luckily, he held firm are fended off a charging Kvyat.
From P20 on the grid to P2 😮
