David Ferrer Picks Out the Best Among Federer, Nadal and Djokovic

Spanish veteran, David Ferrer has recently announced his retirement from the ATP circuit. Back in August 2018, he admitted that the coming season would be his last ever before hanging up his racquet.

His latest match was at the Round of 16 at the Acapulco Open. Sadly, he was downed by 2nd seeded, Alexander Zverev in straight sets. The final score read 7-6 (7-0), 6-1 in favour of the German

Durint the post-match interview at Acapulco, the 36-year old bared his soul on the subject of the Big 4 of tennis. Soon, the subject turned to the serving prowess of the four players and Ferrer himself.

In an interview to the Mexican Open website, David Ferrer gave his pick of the best shots of the Big Four players and himself. The former world No. 3 started off on the now 100-time tournament winner, Roger Federer. He said, “From Roger Federer, I would choose his serve.”

“He is the definitely the toughest player I ever faced” admitted David Ferrer. Next, he spoke of compatriot and friend, Rafael Nadal. He said, “From Rafa his mental strength.”

Finally, he talked about the remaining two members of the Big 4, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard continued, “From Murray, I would choose the rest and from Djokovic the speed. Speaking of his own merits, David Ferrer said, “I would choose his constancy.”

With retirement looming on the horizon, where will Ferrer play next? Back on August, he name-dropped at least 6 tournaments where he could potentially make an appearance. As it turns out, he is currently set to play in the Indian Wells masters tournament. With Acapulco off the table, he could make an appearance at Madrid and at Barcelona.

As has been mentioned several times, Ferrer will make his final appearance this tennis season. But the key question is, which tournament will have the honour of hosting his final ever match? As i turns out, that honour will go to the Madrid Open. One thing is for sure, he will surely be missed by the tennis community.
