Davis Cup 2019: Australia and Serbia Open Up Their Accounts with a Victory

The Australian ATP men, John Millman and Alex de Minaur gave their Australian Davis Cup team 2-0 lead as they played against Bosnia and Herzegovina. John Millman knocked down the Bosnian number one, Damir Dzumhur in straight sets,  6-3, 6-2 and the 19-year old, Minaur defeated Mirza Basic 6-3, 7-6 (7-0).  “It’s a dream come true for me, and I’m so happy I finally was able to get a win for my country in Davis Cup,” De Minaur addressed his feelings after their victory. “I think it’s amazing that we had John Millman come out and get his first win, as well.”  The Australian Davis Cup captain, Lleyton Hewitt decided to skip Nick Kyrgios and his decision was acquitted. The World Number 36, Millman defeated Roger Federer in the quarterfinals of the US Open 2018. “Week in, week out on the ATP Tour, you can’t emulate what it’s like to play in the green and gold and play for your country,” said Millman. “You’re playing for your bench, you’re playing for your country — we don’t get to do that every week.”

The former World Number one tennis player, Hewitt has savaged the new format of the Davis Cup tournament. The two-time slam holder, Hewitt has slammed the FC Barcelona’s defender Gerard Pique as well, since his investment group has led to the changes. Hewitt stated that the football wizard is disintegrating the age-old traditions of tennis. “I don’t agree at all with it. Having the finals in one place is ridiculous,” Hewitt said. “I personally don’t think all the top players will play but we will wait and see. If you look at Davis Cup the last couple of years the elite players are playing”.

The Serbians  Dusan Lajovic won over Sanjar Fayziev 7-6(4), 6-3 and Filip Krajinovic acquired his victory against  Denis Istomin 6-2, 6-4 from the Uzbekistan team in their capital city of Tashkent. On the other court, Japan drew with China at 1-1 in the Chinese metropolis, Guangzhou. The Italian, Andreas Seppi gave his nation 2-0 lead against India.
