“Don’t Know if He’ll Make It Against Novak”: Juan Martin del Potro Doubts if Alexander Zverev Can Win US Open 2021

German tennis player Alexander Zverev has been in the headlines off late for winning the Gold medal in Tokyo. During the event, he managed to beat World No. 1 Novak Djokovic. To beat the Serb was something difficult to do this season.
However, for Alexander Zverev to beat Novak Djokovic in a Grand Slam match is a whole ball game altogether. To add to his worries, the German has never managed to beat a top 5 player in a Grand Slam event as yet. Taking note of this, former champion Juan Martin del Potro revealed his views.
The 2009 US Open champion stated, “Well I think Sascha has the confidence and the power to win the title of course. But I think he will be also feeling the pressure of never winning a Grand Slam title. I don’t know what could happen against Djokovic.”

Having said that, the Argentine star is well aware of the qualities possessed by Zverev. However, he does feel that the Olympic gold medalist lacks the firepower to dethrone someone like Djokovic on the biggest of the stages in a best of five sets match.
The 32-year-old further added, “I mean, Sascha everyone knows he has all the shots on the court and he’s a very smart player but in the end, he needs something else to break the line to keep winning big tournaments. I don’t know what’ll happen in this one but from my point of view, against Novak, I don’t know if he’ll make it.”
