The drama surrounding the Dutch Grand Prix continues to rage on, inspite of the race being confirmed. Earlier this month it transpired that the circuit had begun construction without the required permits. As a result, a number of environmental organisations are none too pleased and sent an angry letter demanding that action be taken.

These organisations are calling for the government to suspend work until permission has been granted. However, the circuit is rushing with the renovations and chosen to get a head-start. Unfortunately nothing is being done about the situation, according to the environmental groups.

“Circuit Park Zandvoort seems to ignore all regulations and to implement work in anticipation of public participation procedures,” the letter stated. It also mentioned that ‘irreparable’ damage has been done to the nature reserve.

The primary concern is that the damage will only increase further in the coming days, as the anticipation for the Dutch Grand Prix builds. According to the latest news, extensive work will commence in early November to hasten the process. However, the court can only consider the objections of the concerned parties at the end of November.

However, it was confirmed that the province will not intervene because the permits are issued in the short term. Parties who are critical of the return of Formula 1 to the Netherlands, are the Christian Union, Party for the Animals, the SP and the PvdA. According to RTL News , the letter could be discussed at the end of this month during the meeting of the Agriculture, Nature and Health Committee.

Hopefully for the sake of everyone involved in the drama, a resolution can be found, where all parties are satisfied. If things do not work out, Max Verstappen’s dream of having a home race at last, could be on ice for a long time.
