Call of Duty is a force to reckon with in the FPS genre. While there have been numerous potential rivals, none of them have been a match for Activision’s popular IP. However, Ubisoft’s upcoming game XDefiant is looking to have the extra factor required to beat a brand like COD.

Sadly, though, fans who were hoping to get it early this year have met with disappointing news. Just recently, the creator of the anticipated FPS informed about its current state. He revealed that the game has been delayed, due to a major reason. Interestingly, this delay may or may not end up being a blessing in disguise for XDefiant!

Mark Rubin, the producer on the first-person shooter, recently shared a long note on Ubisoft’s website. While informing fans about the latest development, he wrote that the game will take more time to come out. That’s because it has been a denied certification from Microsoft (for Xbox) and Sony (for PlayStation).

Simply put, XDefiant is not yet ready to be shipped on consoles like Xbox and PlayStation. And that’s why developers are busy fixing the compliance bugs to meet the approval from Microsoft and Sony. Per Rubin, players can expect to witness a launch later this month or even till mid October. But how’s this update related to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III?

Modern Warfare III and XDefiant are likely to launch almost together!

Well, now that XDefiant has been delayed, one can expect to see a period where both the upcoming games may go against each other. Modern Warfare III’s release is set for November 10. And assuming that XDefiant will get its approval by October, we can expect to see it making a debut almost closer to Activision’s new COD.

In such a situation, there won’t be much time left between both these FPS titles. Players will really find it difficult to make a choice between the two. Plus, XDefiant has been getting a lot of support ever since its open beta was revealed, attracting mostly favorable reactions. And Ubisoft’s potential COD killer is a free-to-play entry as well. Thus, it’s got an edge in giving fans an option to just try it without paying, compared to MWIII which will be a paid game.

Moreover, the issues with the ongoing Modern Warfare II installment have further made some players skeptical about the next entry. Hence, many of them may decide to skip it. Especially, when considering an option like XDefiant will be available to them.
