If keeping promises is a task, Bethesda seems to have mastered the skill. Following the success of Starfield under their banner, the developers have taken on the challenge to redeem their one odd underwhelming release in 2023. The tactical FPS project Redfall is currently under the fan spotlight with the much-anticipated update. But does the update fix all that made Redfall an underwhelming experience?

The Xbox-exclusive Redfall arrived on the console in May 2023. Before the launch, it had dominated the gaming buzz for a while. Most of the hype around the FPS was attributed to its association with the industry giant Bethesda. However, the release didn’t end up being the ideal boost for the developers. Ever since then, this Arkane Studio-developed FPS has been awaiting its redemption. Well, the initial phase of the Redfall redemption seems to have intrigued the gamers positively.

Finally, on October 6, the servers released the new patch update for Redfall. Besides fixing the bugs that faced major criticism during the original launch, developers have also emphasized improving the overall experience through various innovations. The improved gameplay has left most of the fans impressed. “I just tried Redfall after the update… it feels so much better. Like a new game even. Absolutely brilliant feeling to play, and if it came out this way it would have been much better received”, a user wrote hailing the new patch update.

This also made the fans revisit Bethesda’s recently made claims of revisiting Redfall and redefining the branding of the title. Pete Hines, the senior VP of marketing and communication at the Studios in an interview has highlighted the plans to work on Redfall’s redemption. “we didn’t get the start we wanted, but it’s still a fun game… and we’re going to keep working on it. We’re going to do 60fps. We’re going to get it to be a good game because we know, as a first-party studio, Game Pass lives forever. There will be people ten years from now who are going to join Game Pass, and Redfall will be there”, he stated.

Evidently, the developers seemed to have kept their promises around the project as this new patch update offers more than just a 60 FPS update.

An all-round improvement in the latest update

Among all that the fans demanded from the next scheduled Redfall update, playing at a higher frame rate had to be the highlight. Apparently, the developers have catered to not one but most of the demands that explored the hidden potential of the title. These also include imported graphics and visuals with a more stable performance.

Considering the early gamer reviews of the patch, the devs have also tried to make the user interface more simple along with some decent improvements in screen narration. The combat has also been subjected to some enhancements for immersion. Overall, this latest update feels like a big first step in Bethesda’s plans for making Redfall the next big entry in the FPS top tier.
