Changing the Name of Your Island In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Is Much Easier Than You Think

To date, there is no official way to change your island names in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This means if you did a mistake while naming it the first time, or don’t like the name anymore (whatever the reason may be), here is a way to change it.

Keep note that there is no ‘official’ way of changing island names in ACNH.

For this, you would require mods and a modded Switch console. Let’s find out how to go about with this process.

The easiest way to change island names in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The only way previously to change your island name was to reset the entire thing. Sounds painful, right? Well, there is a way, although not so official, that will still change your island name.

As noted in the video, if you were to change island names, Nintendo would need to change the name with each of your friends. As easy as this may sound, Nintendo would not bother to do the same or spend resources for this. In fact, Nintendo would not even remove the users who delete their accounts from your list. This is the reason why you can change neither your island nor the villager’s name.

The first step towards implementing this change is to save the game and extract the save file into your computer. The change cannot be made from your Switch directly and you would need a Windows PC to do the same.

After this, download the New Horizon Save Editor (NHSE). This is the main application that will help you to change your island name.

The moment you open the application, you can already see a column titled ‘Town name’. Obviously, this would mean Island Name in context to New Horizons. Delete the pre-existing name and change it to whichever name you want to keep.
