Episode 7 Act 1 of Valorant is coming on June 27. With the new battle pass of Episode 7, Riot Games have brought new inclusions like Team Deathmatch and Progression System to the game. They did not hold back on new items too and gave fans multiple new skin bundles like Digihex and Composite. Furthermore, a common theme of Blush Skinline is also arriving for guns, player cards, gun buddies, and spray.

However, the main center of attraction of Episode 7 is the arrival of a brand new agent. After Initiator-type agent Gekko was released, fans were talking about the low supply of Sentinel-type agents. There were only four Sentinel-type agents available in the game, namely, Chamber, Cypher, Killjoy, and Sage. Now Riot Games have come through and delivered a fifth Sentinel-type agent, Deadlock. And its abilities have caused quite a stir in the community.

The overpowered abilities of Deadlock

The newest Sentinel-type agent Deadlock hails from Norway. Riot Games premiered a cinematic trailer at Master Tokyo, showcasing her story into the Valorant world. Later in the trailer, Deadlock interacted with Killjoy, foreboding her arrival in the FPS matches. And fans initially loved the abilities and power sets coming with this new agent. However, the ult of this agent has started to get some backlash now.

Her ult is named Annihilation (X). In this ability, players equip a Nanowire Accelerator. It discharges a pulse of nanowires that capture the first enemy in contact. The only way to escape this cocoon is through the help of teammates. When fired from outside the captured enemy is freed. However, players have raised concerns over this ult being spammed in a 1v1 situation.

Players will not be able to save themselves when inside the cocoon and would just have to wait till the round ends with their death. The community has raised concerns and is asking Valorant to nerf this ability. Furthermore, the character also has a Barrier Mesh (E) disc. When fired this disc lands on the ground and restricts the movement of players with the help of barriers. However, these discs are destructible too.

Another overpowered ability of this agent is Sonic Sensor (Q). When fired it deploys a hidden sensor on a wall. It is invisible to other players and when players run nearby the sensor it temporarily concussed them. It also concusses that area if footsteps, weapons fire, or significant noise are detected.

The last ability of Deadlock is the GravNet (C) grenade. This grenade detonates on landing and creates an area of effect at the point of explosion. Any enemy caught within this area has to crouch and move slowly. This gives players an option to target slow-moving enemies easily.

When is Deadlock arriving in ranked matches?

This character will be playable from June 27 after the release of Episode 7 Act 1. However, with the complete overhaul of the Progression System, fans who want to play using this agent will have to wait. They would have to complete her agent contract before using her in gameplay. Furthermore, players would need to earn XP to unlock these contracts.

But looking at her overpowered abilities, fans would want to unlock her quickly. She, like all other Sentinel agents, is capable of enabling players to control the flow of enemy gameplay. Deadlock is immensely useful in cutting down quick attacks with the use of her GravNet bombs and Sonic Sensors. Furthermore, her ult will be undefeatable in a 1v1 or even a 2v1 situation.

The game designers from Riot Games also had high praise for this character. Alexander Mistakidis, a game designer involved with this agent, said, “Our gameplay goal for Deadlock was to create an Agent for players who wanted to hold their ground actively with their utility, as opposed to needing to set up their utility in advance.”

He went on to say, “Our hope is that this appeals to players that value being able to nimbly audible their plays and strategy based on information about their opponents.” His word implies that Riot Games is pushing this new agent to force enemies to be quieter in their approach or else they will fall into the traps of this agent.

What was the reception of Valorant fans and pro players on this agent?

The community was initially loving the new agent. However, now multiple pro players and fans are uniting their voices to nerf the ult of Deadlock.
