Amidst the recent Twitch drama between streamers and online gamblers, it was already a bad sight to witness the beloved streaming platform getting dragged into all this. But despite all this, fans and streamers are now much more skeptical about the procurement of the former glory by the platform as a new revenue scheme is being implemented by the platform for its biggest streamers.

In a letter by Twitch, it was explained how the 50/50 revenue split will now be changed for the bigger streamers and the reason behind no one liking the new news. Additionally, Twitch themselves released an official statement in a form of an FAQ to conclude what they actually meant by the latest update.

Twitch updates their revenue split policy

In a recent update amidst the Mizkif vs Trainwreck drama, President of Twitch Dan Clancy, shared important news via a letter to the public. In the letter, it said that they are not willing to allow streamers to get a 70/30 split because of the “continuous investments” that the platform makes for them.

In this 20 paras long letter, it was made clear that the platform is planning on bringing back the 50/50 split revenue scheme for not just the standard members but even for the premium members. Notably, this rule might be a little different for the premium streamers, as they will be getting “their 70/30 revenue share split for the first $100K earned through subscription revenue.” But also, “Revenue above $100K will be split at the standard 50/50 share split.”

Additionally, Dan Clancy when explaining the reason behind this, wrote, “When we first established a 50/50 revenue share split, it was to signal that we’re in this together. You all do the amazing work you do to create great content, engage with your audience, and grow communities. On our side of the partnership, it’s our responsibility to make continuous investments in the products and people that make your growth possible.”

Why are fans upset about this new development?

The reason behind fans being upset about this latest update was the fact that the platform will actually be cutting revenue to a lot of their partners. This in fact will make the standard contract streamers more defensive in their position and the premium contract partners into losing their interest in the platform.
