The nostalgia fever is running hot for the Fortnite fans. After four years of asking, Fortnite brought back the OG Chapter map and features to the Battle Royale. The update arrived on November 2, and ever since, it has been strongly dominating the gaming trends. Epic Games has seemingly ticked every essential of the checklist to make the OG season a perfect homecoming for the tactical shooter fans. And looks like their efforts have paid off with some record numbers.

Ever since Epic Games confirmed the return of Chapter 1 features to the island, a strong reception was expected. However, no one would have thought the numbers would turn out this big. The revolutionary idea of bringing the glory days back to the gaming table has certainly worked wonders for the developers. In just days of the big launch, the new chapter has made history.

OG Fortnite creates history on November 4

The Fortnite X (formerly Twitter) account informed the fans about a gigantic achievement the new chapter recorded on November 4, 2023. According to the tweet, the numbers on November 4 were the highest in the history of the game. They wrote, Way to start things off with a big bang. We’re blown away by the response to #FortniteOG. Yesterday was the biggest day in Fortnite’s history with over 44.7 MILLION players jumping in and 102 MILLION hours of play. To all Fortnite players, OG and new, THANK YOU!”

A lot of the success should also be attributed to the genius marketing strategies Epic Games implemented to promote the ‘homecoming of glory days’. From teasing the nostalgia to making some big calls for a reunion, the efforts to bring all the veteran Fortnite players back to the screens were evident. Moreover, the new chapter didn’t disappoint in terms of matching to the expectations. Apparently, the fans couldn’t have asked for a better OG fest.

Some more surprising statistics revealed by a renowned industry analyst suggest an impressive number of console players immersed in Fortnite fever.

PlayStation and Xbox owners are busy reminiscing about the glory days! 

Mat Piscatella, a popular industry analyst who has also been associated with giant developers like Activision and Warner Bros. Games, made some striking revelations on the ongoing domination of Epic Games’ adventure on console players. The latter, through their X account, wrote, According to Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker, 38% of all active Xbox players on Nov 3rd played Fortnite that day, while 33% of all active PlayStation players did the same. This is Fortnite’s highest rate since tracking began in June 2020.”

Adding to the figures, the source informed that Xbox averaged 195 minutes per player on the game whereas PlayStation averaged 204 minutes on the same. These numbers are unarguably a huge testimonial to the success story of the OG chapter.

Overall, Piscatella summed up the thread in a tweet that read, nostalgia is a helluva d*ug.” While it seems to have worked for now, it remains to be seen if Fortnite can keep these numbers going.
