From GTA 6 to Biggest Xbox Leak: Has September 18 Turned Into a Cursed Date in Gaming Space?

The gaming community isn’t a strong believer in confidence. There’s always a reason for everything, even if it’s a conspiracy. Leaks and fan theories have always remained an integral part of the industry. Over the years, with the evolution of accessibility, the gaming leaks have only expanded their spectrum. Currently, the Rockstar Games’ much-awaited GTA 6 is being subjected to a hot streak of leaks. Well, until the 18th of September at least! 

While the buzz around the next edition of the Grand Theft Auto series is at an all-time high, a twist has left the fans curious. Almost a year back, the industry was surprised after they witnessed GTA 6 insights, probably the biggest leak in gaming history. But not anymore! The fact that the biggest leak record was broken on the same date of 18th September has left the fans speculating about conspiracies. Have we figured out the cursed date for gaming?

The FTC vs. Microsoft leak has been dominating the social media trends lately. Undoubtedly, the leaks have completely unmasked the strategies of the Xbox giant in the past few years. These recent leaks are testimonials of the console giant’s every move and major decision taken in the course of last year. The leaked email conversations are more than just about the history of Microsoft’s blueprint. 

Every possible future move that Microsoft might have planned for the next phase of console rivalry has been spoiled. The legal proceedings for the Call of Duty makers’ acquisition had already been a headache for the brand. Never in the wildest of dreams could they anticipate the next bummer.

As bad as the current situation seems for Microsoft, gamers are having a Deja Vu. Something quite similar happened in 2022 when the industry was taken by surprise by some enormous leaks of GTA 6. 90 early Grand Theft Auto game clips were leaked to GTAForums by a hacker going by the handle “teapotuberhacker.” He gained access to a secure Rockstar Slack channel by using social engineering to gain these resources.

Interestingly both of the unfortunate leaks share the same date! Thus, both these parallels ignited a wave of fan conspiracies and speculations. Or as the fans started calling it, the ‘cursed date of gaming.’

The rising concern about leaks 

It goes without saying that any leak or alleged claim does help ignite curiosity around a title’s launch. However, no gaming developer appreciated the context of leaks in today’s space. Making a game is challenging in itself but maintaining its confidentiality along to save the surprises for an ultimate launch is greater of a responsibility now. 

Taking the perspective of gaming fans, hardcore gaming fans have started expressing their concerns about leaks. During Starfield, a lot of gamers even wanted to go off social media to avoid being subjected to spoilers. Some fans also believe the massive leak of 2022 around GTA 6 led to further delays in the announcement by the developers.

Moving further to probably the most eventful year for eSports, fans hope that this issue will be brought to a resolution soon.
