Ever since the announcement of Avalanche Software’s open-world RPG, Hogwarts Legacy, based on the Harry Potter universe, fans have been asking, can we trudge the path of dark arts and become someone like Voldemort? With reports revealing there will be multiple endings in the game, people are theorizing if there will be a dark path for the protagonist.
Hogwarts Legacy will have a “moral” system which will be very much akin to the ‘reputation’ system of many games. This means if players manage to acquire a certain level of notoriety, they could be able to unlock a “dark lord” path for their characters. Although the official devs behind the game haven’t made any announcements regarding this.

According to videogamer, the answer is no. There may not be a dark path for the players. This may dishearten many fans who wanted to see the wizarding world from the ‘bad guys’ shoes or become the next Voldemort. But there is some hope as looking at the trailers, it is apparent that the game will have “dark arts” which will mostly be used by the antagonists.

Players can hope to get the opportunity in the game to learn these dark spells for their characters, to a certain extent at least. In the trailers, it has been apparent that the protagonist or the player is some king, a “chosen one” who has special abilities to control the “elder magic”, details of which are still very foggy.

But being a chosen one doesn’t mean they will be a good one (looking at you Anakin), even the “one who shall not be named” was once considered a destined wizard who will become the greatest of all time. But unfortunately, this luxury may not be available in the game and players have to be satisfied playing as the good guy, just like Harry.

The trailers of the game have revealed that there will be some of the most “unspoken’ spells of the wizarding world, such as “Avada Kedavra” available in the game. So far, we don’t know if there will be consequences for using these forbidden spells, but it can be expected that using the dark arts will affect the moral system of the game.
