The Call of Duty series witnessed an amazing year in 2022 with the release of Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2. The two offerings from Activision are very much interconnected this time.

Specifically speaking about Warzone 2, it is vastly different from the first battle royale. Primarily because of a newly introduced mode in DMZ. Moreover, the mode is unlike anything Call of Duty fans have ever experienced. Considering the fact that the mode is still in beta form, the makers should work on its future expansion sooner than later. While now it might be feeling new to the players, that won’t be the case moving forward. To keep gamers hooked, something unexpected needs to be added to this mode, eventually. Otherwise, it may end up dying a slow death.

What’s wrong with DMZ in Call of Duty Warzone 2 right now?

There is little doubt that DMZ takes a lot of inspiration from Escape From Tarkov. However, the way devs have implemented the extraction-based gameplay experience in this mode is quite commendable. Probably that’s the reason why a lot of fans have spent more time on it so far. Surprisingly, though, the interest in DMZ seems to have slowed down recently. Especially after some of the changes introduced with Season 2 in February 2023.

For the uninitiated, the content saw a complete reset of mission progression by the players in the first season. This was something many Call of Duty fans didn’t like as they now have to finish the same quests once again. But more than that, Warzone 2’s DMZ mode also lacks a replayability factor. This is something that was noticed by a popular gaming YouTuber Stodeh, in one of his newest videos. While discussing the demilitarized zone, he talked about all the possible issues that may result in players completely losing their interest in this mode.

Stodeh mentioned that Warzone 2 DMZ focuses more on team games and the solo players don’t get much to do. While there are missions catered for individuals, most of the quests are designed for squads. Plus, the AI combatants are still not totally under control. Despite recent tweaks, they feel overpowered and hard to beat, especially for the solo players.

Another drawback of the current DMZ experience is that there is no actual, real reward for completing the full progression. There are only skins based on certain weapons but not a new weapon in itself. Simply put, there’s no attractive reward for leveling up. Furthermore, Stodeh also believes that the armor plates should be available in more quantity. They are quite important for the players but right now, they can’t access them easily.

Devs should also work on improving the PvP interaction. By default, most of the players tend to be aggressive upon encountering other players. So this leads to a similar, sort of boring gameplay whatsoever. Hence, they should be encouraged to be more friendly by having a system that motivates them to earn Karma points based on their actions. Another interesting addition can be Operator skins with friendly or hostile color indicators depending on their recent actions in previous matches. This will make a big difference in the overall style of how players behave during DMZ games.

Stoden eventually suggests some more solutions that will increase the interest of players for DMZ in Call of Duty Warzone 2. According to him, devs can introduce additional quests. He also thinks that a currency system, outside of the matches, should be added. The latter can consist of traders who can provide players the option to buy and sell different items for the inventory.
