Nintendo’s Latest Acquisition Shows That Sony and Microsoft’s Massive Moves Can’t Deter Them

It looks like Microsoft has triggered a wide range of acquisition warfare in the gaming industry with its Activision/Blizzard deal. In response to this Sony also made a deal with Bungie studio and even Nintendo has picked up its long-time partner studio in SRD.
SRD has been working with the Japanese game development studio for a very long time. And it has also played a crucial role in developing many iconic franchises like Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong Jr.

Nintendo is looking to expand its in-house capabilities
According to a report by VGC, SRD is expected to become a part of the Japanese studio by April 1. Last year, Nintendo’s head shed light on the company’s goals and what they are hoping to achieve. The Japanese studio has come up with a plan to invest around $880 million to significantly expand its in-house capabilities.
The success of Switch has allowed them to pick up massive revenue, and the firm hopes to bolster the device with even more games developed in-house. Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, revealed the company’s plans to expand its capabilities at a briefing in November, 20221.

The studio is also hoping to establish more offices in Kyoto, Japan. This will allow the studio to build a space for its newly acquire in-house teams and allow them to work efficiently towards its goals. Not only that, but the game development firm is also putting out a massive sum of $440 million to expand its business into new media.
