Retailing websites have not yet found a proper solution for scalping problem despite the community’s outroar. This persistent issue has repeatedly prevented gamers from getting their hands on next-gen consoles like PS5. The high demand for the gaming devices coupled with an artificial scarcity of supply has made matters much worse.
A major scalping group has ostentatiously re-appeared on the internet by flaunting their PS5 haul. The group claims to have emptied another stockpile of units from a retail website.

The situation is steadily getting out of hand with reports of increased scalping activities. The UK gaming community may have reached a breaking point because of an artificial blockade in demand and supply. These scalping groups are constantly on the hunt for potential users by offering scalping services. Resale of hoarded stocks with an inflated price is not their only source of income, as these groups also carry out subscription based service to teach scalping. These boastful social media posts serve as marketing effort to attract both types of customers to their websites.

Retailing websites are doing their best to counter this problem
According to a report by Eurogamer, yet another group of scalpers recently made identical claims as the aforementioned group. In a similar fashion, even this group made a social media post boasting a haul of 1000+ units of Xbox Series X consoles from retailing website The Game. However, the website caught the malpractice in time and were able to successfully fend off against hoarders.
Now the same group has made headlines once again by pulling 2000 unit of PS5 from the vendor. In a conversation with Eurogamer, an executive from the website has down played those claims.

“We have strong measures in place to help ensure that our ‘1 per customer’ statement is maintained to allow for as many individual customers to successfully purchase as possible.
All pre-orders are subject to automatic checks and order updates such as cancellations following these checks take place after a customer will have received a valid order confirmation email.
At the present time these orders are still pre-orders and as such no payments have yet been taken from customers. Payments will commence once our order checks have been completed”

The aforementioned measures have worked for the retail website before, but it seems like scalpers may have found a way around it. The hoarders continue to snag all the available units from the market rather easily. It is high time for the vendors to come up with a more permanent solution that can put these activities to bed.
