Mortal Kombat 12 might be in production right now
According to a report by VGC, NetherRealm Studios is not sure about its future with the parent company WB Games. Rumors have it that the WB Games is currently on sale. A journalist, Jeff Grubb, stated that the studio is actively working on this project instead of Injustice 3.
“It lines up with the reality and it lines up with what I’ve heard, where Mortal Kombat 12 would make the most sense because that’s a game they know will make money, it will sell well… Mortal Kombat 11 was great, it’s doing well, but if you come out with Mortal Kombat 12, it will also sell and do well. At the same time, you don’t have to use any of this Batman or Superman characters that might be tied up in licensing if you try to get rid of NetherRealm or sell it to whoever.”

Safe to say, the Injustice franchise might be put on a hold for the foreseeable future unless things take a turn. The last iteration of the game came out in 2017 and the studio hasn’t revisited it ever since. Sadly, this fact won’t change soon, given the current state of affairs.
