Game bugs can be serious turnoffs for gamers. However, from Silent Hill’s mist to the creepers of Minecraft, the idea was initially generated by an initial bug, which was later turned into one of the main USPs of those games. This is not an exceptional case for Steam‘s superhit launch of the year Baldur’s Gate 3.

While many fans found romance as one of the unique aspects of this role-playing game, developers call it an initial glitch of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Well, the director of the game at least says so. Recently in an interview, director Swen Vincke told the interviewee that although romance is an important part of the game, it was initially a bug. Furthermore, this director also added that when they started shipping the game, they noticed the characters being overly involved in romance. Since then, they have tried to fix the issue and have successfully done it with some of the characters-  “It wasn’t supposed to be that way. We’ve fixed it since, at least for some of them. We’re still fixing a few of them.”

Referring to the experience of practical relationships, Vincke added that Baldur’s Gate 3’s character, Gale, wasn’t supposed to be so romantic. However, with the game receiving so much hype within days of its release, the team couldn’t address the issue since the beginning. Vincke expressed that in real life, such a portrayal of romance will be really problematic. This is why the team considered fixing this bug.

While the director accepts the overly romantic aspect of Baldur’s Gate 3 as an initial game glitch, players are simply bowled out with this exclusive USP of this Dungeons and Dragons-inspired game. In this role-playing game, romance appears as a strategic tool for players to make better allies in the game. For example, the romantic approval from another in-game character depends on the approval meter, which players can find in the inventory. After receiving enough approvals, conversation becomes the second important aspect. Players can start having the conversation while their approval matter reaches the Green Zone. Not to mention that wrong choices of answers can strictly block the player from having another romantic encounter for a while.

Managing to remain in the good books of the allies after facing druids and goblins, in fact, one player gets the chance of another conversation with the ally. Chances are there that this might proceed to a romantic, intimate encounter between them.
