Following the end of E3 2021 comes another big announcement by Sony. The tech giant has revealed that their upcoming PSVR 2 will possibly drop late next year. And this time, with Samsung OLED panels.

The first time Sony announced a follow-up to their last VR headset was on February 23. And with that, rumors started to make their way to the internet.

What we know about Sony’s PSVR 2 so far 

Sony has been hyping its next PSVR headset since its announcement. And so far, things look promising.

Significant upgrades over its predecessor are expected. PSVR 2 will come with a single cord, facilitating a hassle-free setup. The experience will certainly be more intimate as it will get an upgrade in terms of graphics quality. And the headset will support higher resolutions than its predecessor as well. 

Rumors from reliable sources state that this can mean a reasonable step-up in terms of resolution with 4000×2040 pixels.

The PSVR 2 will also have more interactive controllers. “One of the innovations we’re excited about is our new VR controller, which will incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller, along with a focus on great ergonomics,” the official PSVR 2 announcement from February revealed. 

We also know from a picture revealed by Sony themselves that the controller will combine finger-tracking and triggers that resemble the triggers from the DualSense controllers.

Alongside all of that, the next-gen headset can use foveate rendering. Meaning, the headset will also use eye-tracking technologies to enhance the VR experience. 

As the gaming industry moves into the future, the primary focus has been largely on immersion. With the advent of VR, players got to experience the next level of gaming. 

Sony’s PSVR, which was released back in 2016, was Sony’s attempt at bringing VR to owners of the PlayStation

Their first release garnered a favorable response as fans praised the design and mobility the PSVR offered. 

Sony has been dedicated to VR and the next-gen headset is sure to utilize all sorts of technological advancements to ensure players get a future-proof and engaging product.
