Twitch is currently going through a tumultuous time. The platform is bleeding streamers to competitors like Rumble and Kick. With the current changes in Terms of Service from the platform, dissatisfaction among the streamers has reached an all-time high. However, the Amazon-backed platform is doing whatever it can to retain streamers.

One such feature they have brought is Hype Chat. It is a new way for viewers to stand out and interact with the streamers. However, another prominent streaming platform, YouTube Gaming, already has a similar feature. And former YouTube Gaming Head Ryan Wyatt has accused Twitch of copying them.

Former YouTube Gaming executive accuses Twitch of copying

Twitch’s Hype Chat works in a way that viewers pay a certain amount of money so that their chat gets pinned to the top. But this feature has a striking resemblance to YouTube Gaming’s Super Chat. Both features work similarly and this was pointed out by Ryan Wyatt. The former YouTube Gaming Head tweeted, “I’ve seen this product somewhere before.” His tweet took a subtle poke at Twitch, which was responded to promptly by the Amazon-backed platform.

The VP for monetization at Twitch, Mike Minton, replied to the tweet sent by Wyatt. Minton had a quippy remark about YouTube Gaming copying every feature of Twitch. He tweeted, “Funny, I had the same reaction to gift subs, clips, raids, sub-only chat, polls on YT Live…” This implies he was calling out YouTube Gaming for building an identical model like them. Whereas Twitch just took inspiration from one of YouTube Gaming’s features.

This reaction from Minton has got the support of fans. While the fans are still critical of the new Twitch policies, they believe this platform was the first to build up the live streaming industry. And multiple fans have accused YouTube Gaming of copying Twitch.

However, multiple fans have also come in support of the Google-owned platform. They are calling out Twitch for claiming ownership of features that are present on almost every live streaming service. And their reactions were funny in their own right.
