Upcoming Iron Man Game Is Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Job Listing Reveals

EA announced its much-awaited partnership with Marvel a while ago. This led EA’s Motive studio to start working on a brand-new Iron Man game. EA announced this game with a very short teaser. Ever since that point, there has been no more news on this game whatsoever.

Fans were pretty curious about it, but Motive Studio’s track record has given them some relief. Now a recent leak is suggesting something very unusual for a game produced by Electronic Arts.

EA’s Iron Man game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5!

A while ago, EA made it clear to its studios that they would be using the proprietary Frostbite engine for every single production. Ever since that point, from Bioware to Ghost Games to Criterion, every developer has adapted to this game engine.

Some of them had a number of difficulties doing so, the development of this engine was actually done by Dice for their Battlefield series. Using a first-person game engine for role-playing games and such became very complicated for them. As a result of this, those studios developed excellent games such as Need for Speed: Run and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

This changed with Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall. They chose to develop it using a highly modified version of Valve’s source engine. They developed its sequel using similar technology. So was the spinoff of this series, Apex Legends. Finally, they developed their Star Wars games Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor using Unreal Engine 5. This paved the way for other developers to do the same.

Enters EA Motive the developers of Rogue Squadron and Dead Space, initially developed their games with Frostbite 3. But just after EA tasked them with developing Marvel’s Iron Man, they decided to shift to Unreal Engine 5.

This was revealed by a recent job posting saying “Required qualifications for the role include “Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5’s audio system, including working with audio components, audio graphs, sound cues, and Unreal’s Blueprints visual scripting.

It is understandable if Motive wants to focus on development using a more flexible game engine. Unreal Engine 5 offers developers a bunch of exciting new features, such as lumens and nanites offering ways to present natural lighting at a cheaper performance cost.
