The Nintendo community at the moment is thriving in excitement. After much anticipation and wait, the legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released to the masses. The title opened up to tremendous responses, which was the expected result that Eiji Aonuma and his team wanted.

Now that the Zelda franchise has released yet another title to strengthen its legacy, the captain of the franchise might be thinking of hanging up his boots. Especially as he celebrated his 60th birthday two months ago.

The Legend of Zelda architect is feeling his age

The Legend of Zelda is one of the most revered gaming franchises to ever exist. Thanks to it, Nintendo was able to construct a complex narrative that held together the dreams of many gamers across the globe. Other than the company itself, there is one more person the world is thankful for regarding Zelda. It is none other than Eiji Aonuma. He has been the lighthouse of the franchise through these glorious years, and dedicated much of his life to making sure the games in the franchise met the standards of the community.

But, according to an interview he gave to the Washington Post, the mastermind sort of is getting tired. He celebrated his 60th birthday this March, and it seems that he at the moment is feeling weary.

“I found myself wondering, should I be doing this my age?” stated Eiji Aonuma as he talked about how he felt a slowed pace when completing the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Apparently, for testing, he has played the game more than 20 times. Each time it only took him a couple of days to finish the narrative. But now he takes around a week and a half, and Aonuma thinks it is a sign.

He has been the producer for Nintendo’s Zelda franchise for a long time now. Notably, the boom of Breath of the Wild was the recent and most celebrated silver feather in his crown. But managing to finish Tears of the Kingdom at a similar pace was quite rough for Aonuma. He himself stated that in a recent interview.

Has the architect who has been with Nintendo for many years and has pioneered countless projects decided to hang up his boots? It seems that when weariness strikes Eiji Aonuma likes to get the steam off by playing Nintendo games. Especially Ring Fit Adventure, Nintendo’s fitness game.

Chances are that he might change his life’s track in the time between Tears of Kingdom and the next Zelda game. But just like the prospected Zelda sequel, his retirement too is something of a mystery.
