The Bahrain Grand Prix is finally over and Carlos Sainz Jr has emerged as a fan favorite. The Spaniard who will soon be replaced by Lewis Hamilton in Ferrari, has a lot to prove and very little time to do so. Although he is a well-known driver for his experience around the circuits, Vasseur has decided to retain Charles Leclerc and let Sainz go.

Although this might be shocking news for many, Charles Leclerc has been painted as the poster boy for Ferrari ever since he joined the team. Although he was ignored throughout his career, Leclerc will be receiving all the attention he needs for this season as Carlos Sainz gets the bitter half. But what many are thinking goes with what Damon Hill has to say about the Hamilton switch, as he puts himself in Toto Wolff’s shoes to share what he would have done as Mercedes’ team principal.

After the first Grand Prix of 2024, Sainz Jr stood 3rd achieving a podium while his partner was just one position shy of the top 3. British former professional racing driver Damon Hill was among the crowd at the paddocks and when approached and asked, “If you were Toto Wolff, would you prefer Leclerc or Sainz in 2025 to replace Hamilton?” Damon Hill replied, “I would prefer Carlos [over Charles].”

The racing legend has been in the Motorsport world for decades and with that experience he answered. That being said, Charles Leclerc is known to be a quicker driver than Sainz but that was disregarded at the Bahrain GP. With the pressure to find a new team, this is Sainz’s chance to prove himself.
