Gran Turismo, Halo Credited as the Origins of Lando Norris’ Journey to a Cool Half Million

Lando Norris is one of the brightest racing talent in F1 currently. He’s been with McLaren throughout his life and has been driving for them for 3 years now. The British driver has certainly impressed many with his skill and speed, including Sir Lewis Hamilton. However, he also has a different interest in the F1 racing grid. In a recent podcast, Lando talks about his love for gaming, and his Esports team, Quadrant.

Lando gave a hint of his surreal talent in the US GP after he finished P6 in the race. Despite picking up damage from Stroll and Alonso’s crash, he had a memorable drive in Austin.

While racing might be his profession, Lando has also set up an E-sports team named Quadrant. Quadrant has nearly 500k subscribers on its YouTube channel. It combines Lando’s love for gaming, lifestyle and apparel. In his latest appearance at the OpTic podcast, he discussed how he got into gaming and revealed the first game he played.

Lando said, “I think growing up, when I really started to get into gaming so probably. I mean I started playing games since I was like six or seven”. He further continued, “My first, racing; Gran Turismo.”

Additionally, Norris explained how racing games are fun if you’re into racing. He further stated that he was not allowed to play First person shooting games when he was younger.

Furthermore, he explains, “I’d say COD (Call of Duty) was really one of the first games I really got into. Actually, Halo, Halo was the first game. We used to go on holiday somewhere and there was an Xbox, and the only game that was on it was the Halo. So me and my brother would always play Halo”.

You’re probably wondering how a 22-year-old founded his own Esports team. Norris answered those questions on the podcast with OpTic. The McLaren driver explained how he’s managed to keep his passion for E-sports alive despite racing in F1 during his initial years.

Lando said, “I’ve always loved it. I guess growing up and seeing like these massive teams you know, you guys or Faze or all of these guys. I’ve always wanted to be part of Esports”. He also explains how he loves the team aspects after being a part of F2 and F3 team campaigns.

The McLaren driver also stated how he’s always had a dream of opening an E-sports team. However, due to time constraints, he couldn’t do it. He added, “It was not the easiest thing but then Covid came and it was like the perfect opportunity for it all to start with the dream of you know, going into COD and Halo, and I don’t know maybe FIFA.”

Norris also mentioned that Quadrant has a rocket league team and how they’re trying to expand their team into things he hasn’t taken part in. He also cited the example of the game, League of Legends and discusses how he’d like to get more into it.
