Ahead of the start of the 2022 motorsports season, many big names are taking part in the Race of Champions. But perhaps the biggest names of them all are NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson and Formula 1’s Sebastian Vettel.
Johnson recently posted a series of tweets in which he can be seen alongside Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher, prepping for the ROC in, well, some chilly conditions.
“This morning’s workout. Some are more comfortable in the cold than others,” Johnson wrote.

How did Sebastian Vettel and Jimmie Johnson do in the ROC?
Both racecar drivers, each a legend in their own right, would’ve wanted to start their next season in F1 and IndyCar with a strong result at the Race of Champions. However, as it turned out, only one of them was able to do so.
The Aston Martin driver, who is a seven-time ROC champion, crashed out spectacularly against sim racer Lucas Blakeley. The Scot defeated the German by a fraction of a second in the opening heat race, leading to Vettel’s year starting with an embarrassing defeat.

On the other hand, the former NASCAR driver, Jimmie Johnson, finished second along with teammate and fellow IndyCar driver Colton Herta for team USA.

“Who would have thought two California guys would be here on snow and ice and finish second in the Race of Champions Nations Cup,” Johnson said after narrowly losing to the Norwegian father-son duo of Petter and Oliver Sorberg.

Now, it remains to be seen just how much the result of this ROC impacts both Jimmie Johnson and Sebastian Vettel’s 2022 season.
