Lewis Hamilton and George Russell have finally had a reason to smile. The upgrades have clearly worked and put them right behind the Ferrari and Red Bull. In qualifying, the car seemed to be working better as well. With George in P4 and Lewis in P6, a podium could be on the cards for the Brackley-based outfit.

Friday confirmed that the W13 has been finding more speed but Lewis Hamilton feels there could have been more. Speaking after qualifying, “I’m a little bit gutted because I wanna be further up ahead, and you’ve obviously seen George is able to put it further ahead than I but yea, I’ll keep pushing.”

Lewis Hamilton seemed to be more in control of the car in today’s qualifying session. In the dying minutes of Q3, he even managed to set a few purple sectors.

“But I think people underestimate Lewis and how relentless he is in the race. He’s an absolute animal when it comes to what he can get out of the car.”

Mercedes are happy to qualify in the front

Even Mercedes as a team are elated to qualify in the position that they did. But Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes that his team has a better race car than qualifying. Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after, he explained what the team is looking forward to on Sunday.

“Yeah, I think we have done a solid step into Barcelona you try to keep your expectations at the realistic point and I think where we slotted in today is the best we could have expected.”

“My belief is that we have a racecar more than a qualifying car but we are going to see tomorrow how it went for the other ones,” replied the Austrian.
