Formula 1 returns from the summer break with the Belgian GP in Spa this weekend. Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and 5 other drivers announced they will be taking penalties. However, that did not stop Max Verstappen from being the fastest person on the track. His 2021 rival Lewis Hamilton on the other hand, crawled behind him at a pace that left him speechless.

Lewis Hamilton struggled with his W13 Mercedes car. After losing the championship to Max Verstappen in the final lap of Abu Dhabi GP last year, Mercedes and Hamilton have failed to stay anywhere near the Red Bull car.

His misery was further exacerbated today as Lewis Hamilton was told on his radio that he was 1.8s behind Max Verstappen. Hamilton struggled throughout the race to find momentum and finished Q3 behind Fernando Alonso in 7th place. His teammate George Russell finished a spot behind at 8th position as Mercedes’ woeful evening came to an end.

Carlos Sainz may have taken the pole position, but Max Verstappen set the standards in today’s qualifying session. He cruised throughout and was comfortably the fastest person on the track.

The reigning world champion was a class above everyone else on the circuit, and even his closest competitor, Charles Leclerc could not believe how good Verstappen was. Leclerc said,

“But when you see the gap to Max, it’s… a bit worrying. They are extremely quick, and it’s been the case since the beginning of the weekend, and we cannot explain quite why, so we need to work.”

When asked if Ferrari could have done anything, he added, No, no, no. They are way too fast. It’s a bit worrying.”

Lewis Hamilton could not believe his ears when he was informed about his position in comparison with Max Verstappen. “One-point-eight seconds?” the Mercedes driver replied to Bono, as he couldn’t keep his disbelief in control.

Verstappen fans used this opportunity to take a dig and rub salt on the wounds of the 7-time World champion on Twitter.

Red Bull and Verstappen fans did not forget Lewis’ comments either.

While Lewis Hamilton will be looking for a good start tomorrow, he still has a long battle to fight with drivers ahead as well as behind him on the grid. Conversely, Verstappen fans will be eager to see the race pace on his Red Bull car and will be hoping once again he can win at Spa.
