Racing Point are far from being the happiest team on the grid at the moment. They were recently slapped with a €400,000 fine and were also docked 15 points by the FIA.

The reason for this was the “abnormal development” of the rear brake ducts on their cars.

However, many other teams such as Renault (the leaders of said protest), Ferrari, McLaren as well as Williams felt that Racing Point got off lightly.

As such, these teams have made it clear that they will be appealing the penalty that Racing Point were taxed with.

Key Points to Know From the FIA’s Ruling Over Racing Point-Renault F1 Protest

Obviously, this didn’t go down well with Racing Point’s owner, Lawrence Stroll. He vented to the media whilst confirming that he will do everything in his power to prove the innocence of his team. Something that Mercedes boss Toto Wolff can very much see happening.

According to Wolff, who knows Stroll well, the Racing Point owner will go to any length to win the protest.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Wolff said, “Lawrence is somebody that doesn’t take any prisoners. The legal opinion is clearly that this is a 99.9% case that he will win in the ICA.

“Lawrence is going to go all-in if he’s being dragged to the ICA. He’s going to deploy all the resources he has and bring this to a positive end for him.”

The Mercedes Team Principal opined, “There is not one millimeter that the team – also in our opinion – that Racing Point did anything wrong.”

Obviously, having given them the design plans for their own brake duct, it’s understandable why Wolff and Mercedes would support Stroll and his team.

But on the other hand, one can also understand the anger of the other teams. They feel that the FIA have let Racing Point off the hook easily, setting a dangerous precedent for the future.

It’s highly unlikely that this off-track drama is going to come to a close anytime soon. But keep your eyes peeled for more interesting developments in this saga.
